Caught this on FMC the other day.  First off, it's a little hard to see redford as a common criminal.  He doesn't exactly fit in perfectly with his crew but anyway this was a very good movie.  Redford on his way home from jail is told about the new job, stealing some jewel from a museum.  Over the course of his movie they break into the museum, more than one jail, and a bank, wit ha couple of car chases too.  easily the best movie ever made that contains the phrase "Afghanistan Bananistan". easily

I bought this DVD about a year ago.  It is a nice little heist flick.  I believe that THE BANK SHOT (1974) starring George C. Scott is sort of a sequel.

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Both films are based on Donald Westlake's long running series of books featuring his Dortmunder character.

I love this film and included it in the thread  for my list of films I always watch when I see they are on. I love well done caper films, and this one managed to have a great mix of humor to action with the series of heists where the plans work but something still goes wrong. The dialog is great all through it (like Dortmunder's "It's good but it's bad speech"), but the "fishing" scene is loaded with deadpan favorites of mine. And the son's line from Zero Mostel's encounter with "Chicken" - "I'm gonna tell momma on you!"
