Something scary happened two days ago

It's been terribly hot here and two nights ago, we had a violent rain and thunderstorm.

At about 7 pm, I heard what sounded like an explosion and then smelled something burning. Thinking that something here got hit by lightning, I went outside in the rain only to see that two of my neighbors' very, very  tall trees had gotten hit by lightning and were burning fiercely.

I called the neighborhood security, they had people on scene in minutes, I called the EMS and they sent three firetrucks after telling me that five people had called the issue in.

Thankfully no property damage other than two singed trees and some p**sed off birds who have some nest rebuilding to do.
