Last day at work

Yes, today is my last day at my current job.  I gave 4 weeks notice and have been investigating other opportunities.  However, I found that it is nearly impossible to conduct a serious job search while you are working full time (and traveling).  But, as of the end of the day today, I am free to spend every day looking for a job.  I just hope I find one soon!  Has anyone else ever quit a job before you had another one lined up?  It's a little scary, especially when you have a mortgage to pay.  Anyway, I have been on a few interviews and there are about 10 recruiters who keep calling me, so I'm sure that I'll latch onto something soon.

The good news is, I'll have plenty of time to watch BAD MOVIES next week!

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

I quit  my job at Compaq in Houston because we had to decided to move back to Arkansas because our families were here  and my wife's mother wasn't doing to well.  I finally had to quit without another job, for the reason you said. I had tried the call in sick once to go on an interview and I almost got caught.

So when I wasn't coming up here  for an interview I was at home surfing or watching tv. I took to not shaving but about once a week, and I ate a lot of caramel corn. My kids took to calling me "Bum Dad".  It took about  three months and some of my retirement to tide us over, but  it was worth it.

I hated the job at Compaq (phone tech support). It got  tiresome spending your day trying to teach idiots how to type or where that anykey is at.  All those funny stories you hear are tragically true. Plus most of the supervisors were a***oles.  We also hated Houston, it's like living in the friggin rain forest, you can hardly go outside about  2/3 of the year because it 's so damned hot and humid.  If you wanted a sauna all you had to do is walk outside for  2 minutes.

It worked out though , I actually ended up with two offers in the same week and had to decide which to take.  Then after I took one of them I got a call from someone my wife's sister had gotten my resume to without my knowledge

It is easier if you have time to go to the interviews..

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

You know it's funny, but I can't remember a job I quit with having another lined up...I always left it to chance or fate, and somehow it just always seemed to work out.  I have had some close calls and tight times, but very short lived.  The best one is when I quit 2 job...one was a full time job taking catalog orders by phone.  I HATED it, and knew I had much more to offer than this. So, I quit bith jobs, then took off for Florida at 1am.  From there I found a job within a week as a marketing manger and traveled the US about 90% of the time.

Wouldn't trade that experience for anything!  I met all kinds and types of people and had some intersting conversations.  I even started writing a novel about it...there are many characters that are based on the people I met...the ending has a twist though that I am still working on.

"Anykey?  where's the anykey?"  I will never forget that line from Homer Simpson...classic.  I am no computer wiz, but did pretty good figuring out things on my own.  I have a cousin who use to do tech support and have heard the stupidity endured...one of my two favs:

1. "My cup holder is broken"
2. After a half hour of going over everything, they come to find out that the person was trying to insert a hard disk into a cd drive

I left my last job without having one lined up, so I spent time surfing the net, filling out online job applications and eating cheetos for a good 3 months. That's when I found this cartoon day in the life

It's scary the things you begin to think of doing to make money, and the things you can't do because you don't have it. But life changes, nothing stays the same - something always comes along. Good luck! Enjoy the time off

Just join a subcontracting firm... That's what I did...

I found a job faster and I got more than I would have had I kept going door to door. Whether we like it or not corporations have a strong grasp on most of the job fields.
And they say that monopolizing industries is illegal?
