I'm 40 years old, and I will say that SPIDER-MAN 2 was, without question, a better movie, in every way, than THE VILLAGE.  Just because a movie has moody lighting, lots of dialogue, and no explosions, doesn't mean that it has some lofty purpose or deep message.  I agree that THE VILLAGE was trying to say something meaningful.  It just failed miserably in its attempt to do so.
