I just ordered my copies of the upcoming DVD releases of:

* VIXEN

* SUPER VIXENS

* BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRA VIXENS

3 Russ Meyer drive-in boob-fests.  Does life get any better than this?

Any word on a release of Faster p***ycat! Kill! Kill!? I just saw it for the first time a few weeks ago, and was amazed. John Waters summed that film up the best: "Beyond a doubt, the best movie ever made. Possibly better than any movie that will ever be made in the future."

       The best it can ever get is when Russ Meyer deservingly wins new fans,no matter how reclusive he keeps his movies,and how expensive he is with his movies(videos and DVDs).  Those movies rightfully deserve to be classics(ala Paul Morrissey's "Trash"[the "Spun" of its generation])that live on for generations to discover them.

I have yet to see a Russ Meyer or Jean Rollin film.

SUPERVIXENS is one of my favorites that I've seen.  BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRAVIXENS wasn't quite as good--I liked some of it, but the movie just wasn't as good as some of his earlier stuff.

Velvet Brotha

I've heard alot of stories about this title. Is it really as bad as most critics say it is? "What am I saying?!" What the hell do those Hollywood brown nosers know anyway?

I have several of Jean Rollin's vampire films on DVD.  They are from a company called Redemption  (I'm not sure if they are still in business or not).  In my opinion, there is nothing special about Rollin's films.  They are very similar to other 1970s European horror movies.  Lots of boobs, some blood & gore, not particularly scary, but often fairly atmospheric.  I wouldn't go out of my way to see a Rollin film, but they aren't bad.

Faster p***ycat is an astounding film. You know how in countercultural movies from the 60s, there's always a handful of hysterically cheesy "hip" one-liners? EVERY SINGLE LINE in this movie is like that! Add to that ridiculously well-endowed go-go dancers drag racing, getting into kung-fu fights, and hating everyone they meet, and you've got a b-movie classic. (As for whether it's "bad" or not, I'd say no; it'd definitely fit on this site, but Meyer is both far more talented and self-aware than, say, Ed Wood).

Anyone have any suggestions for which Meyer movies to pursue next?

UP!, or SUPERVIXENS, though if you liked  FASTER p***yCAT! you might like BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS.  I haven't seen FASTER though I've heard it has no nudity...BEYOND has some but not much.  I've noticed that FASTER and BEYOND get the most "hipster" credibility due to their campiness, but I've always thought that neither was much like any of Meyer's other films.  I think SUPERVIXENS is the best overall of the ones I've seen--Charles Napier is great.

Well endowed females that get into kung-fu fights and drive fast cars?! Sounds like Charlie's Angels the movie to me. LOL ; ) Just kidding.... no seriously... I'm sold man! I saw some pics of these women and WOW, women only wish they looked that good these days.

MUDHONEY is one of my favorite Russ Meyer films.

SUPERVIXENS is great but gets a little slow at times. Super Lorna is my favorite.

COMMON LAW CABIN can be fun. Also, GOOD MORNING...AND GOODBYE!

Russ did his own photography, setting up multiple shots for each scene. He also edited, wrote, produced. A real American original.

I just wish he would release his pictures in a widescreen format. I once wrote RM Films and told them that it was worth it for these drive-in movies to be seen in their correct aspect ratio.

So far, BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is the only one to come out widescreen. Perhaps it is because 20th Century Fox owns it.

As a knowledgeable fan can you tell me where can fine pictures of Eufaula Roop on the 'Net'. I believe her name is Anne Marie.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

I like the part in Vixen where the guys turn over pull-top beer cans & open them on the bottom with church keys.
Apparently using the pull-tabs ain't cool, daddio . . . .

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is playing on IFC in the middle of the night on the 11th. Never seen it but want to just for that Strawberry Alarm Clock appearance.

Most probably know this but for those who don't,  Beyond the Valley of the Dolls was written by Roger Ebert.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.
