The 1974 South African film HOW LONG has finally been restored and digitized and is having its premiere screening 50 years later at The Bioscope Theater in Johannesburg.

Imagine making a movie then getting arrested on the last day of filming and having all your material confiscated. 😳😳

I have to talk about the film and censorship in general so it should be a fun evening. 😊🐢

I tried looking this up, & Google directed me to Beautiful People(1974)....
Odd that they would censor a nature documentary.....

No, that's a totally different movie.

HOW LONG was never released at all anywhere so I think there isn't even an IMDB page for it.

The previous government wanted it destroyed but it, like so many others, was preserved.

It's an anti apartheid film which is part musical, part stage play and deals with the resistance of the Black community against apartheid oppression.

Pretty heavy stuff and it's no wonder it got seized and banned 😳

Well, that was..... shall we say, interesting.

Film was well received but I honestly found it a little bit boring.

I was hoping for something really earth shaking due to the fact that the film hadn't been seen since it was produced.

People were allowed to consume alcohol in the cinemas which is usually a no no here.

But it was a OK outing at least.
