Hello, I have a question about the availability (or even existence of) an external plug and play 4k/Bluray player.  I have many 4K and Bluray discs that I wanna watch with my friends from around the globe on Discord and also show off the special features with them. If there are such device or devices, what brand would you recommend and how easy are they to use?

I would like to find something that just plugs into my USB (maybe has a power chord if needed) and my PC detects it and then I can just pop that disc in and watch Rumplstiltskin (1995) in all its 4K glory.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, as Cerberus mentioned, they are not hard to get or use. Got one myself.

My current one has gone on the fritz and I'm in the market for a new model. I'm looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPPWKMGK/?coliid=I1ALWXX3L6UOGQ

thing is i got one a few years back and it doesnt read my blurays; plus i can't seem to find one that plays $K as well. Most the ones i see on ebay say they dont recognize the 4K discs.

now i use VLC media player to watch my DVDs so im assuming the one I have worked but i needed some kind of software thing to make it read the blurays? I guess I should have added this to clarify any confusion and save me from the snark.

so with these i got on amazon it seems like they don't sell 4K players (or the ones they do sell apparently do not come with a power bank that is needed to... well power it) I also (as stated before) ran into an issue where the blurays weren't reading and I just need to know: Is there some kinda program I need in order to get VLC to read the blurays? I'd take bluray over 4K for now but any brand recommendations would help.

I missed the 4K part of your question... I assume something exists that would play 4K UHDs but I don't know of it and I'm not in the market myself. As for playing Blu-rays with VLC, it needs a "codec" which you should be able to download for free. However, I have never been able to install one properly--it takes some fiddling. I was hoping a new player would be friendlier, but I usually use them for my old CDs and DVDs, though I'd prefer it to play new BRs as well. Good luck, maybe someone else will know more.

I haven't really kept up with the tech, But learning a new term (UHD) kinda puts it in context....

I'm guessing this might be a good place to start.....

i'm taking a look but it seems like that also has the same issue as most the UDH readers where it doesn't actually support 4K; I guess I'll have to find some way to wire a 4K or bluray player to my PC using a capture card. shoot.

damn I wish there was a way to make it easier; it blows my mind I have this high end PC but there's no simple plug and play BR or 4K players for PC

I tried search eBay for "4k uhd drive" & got some results, albeit, a bit pricey...
