BURNS AND ALLEN SHOW - A great husband and wife comedy team. Just watched my 3 episode DVD that I just bought at Walmart for $1. Gracie Allen is just such a funny person and with George Burns stepping off the stage to give us an overview of things all works great. If you have never seen one of their shows then be sure to the next chance you get. I garantee you'll love the show. Has anyone seen this TV Show?

I've only seen a few, but one of the running gags on the show was Gracie belief that George was a wonderful singer. I have some of the old radio shows and Gracie had a talking duck. The voice belonged to Clarence Nash, who was the voice of Donald Duck too.

There is a broadcasting award for women called the Gracie, named for Gracie.

The Burgomaster

Back in the early to mid 1970s, a local TV station used to show a lot of old television series and comedy shorts late at night.  Burns and Allen was one of them.  Some others were:

* Love that Bob (starring Bob Cummings)
* You Bet Your Life (starring Groucho Marx)
* Our Miss Brooks (starring Eve Arden and Gale Gordon)
* Various comedy shorts starring Leon Erroll and Edgar Kennedy

I loved watching all of them.  I agree, Burns and Allen was a very funny show, very much in the style of Vaudeville.

I did see one episode of LOVE THAT BOB and have seen many YOU BET YOUR LIFES.

Heard of OUR MISS BROOKS, but not sure if I've ever seen one. A few of those old shows started on radio.

Interesting Ozzymandias. Would like to have seen the Duck episode. The show played for 8 years and I've only seen about a dozen episodes. Enjoyed all of them so far.

You must have misunderstood. The Duck was only on the radio shows. I have an episode of the radio show featuring the duck. It's in one of radio spirits colections. I know some early episodes were done live and no copy of those exist. I think the Duck was a gag they dropped when they went to TV. Too hard to pull off.

I heard on the radio (probably that Radio Spirits show) that Ray Bradbury wrote an episode of this when he was fourteen. He handed it to Burns in the street, Burns liked it, so they made it. I think it was the one with the girl scouts.

See, if you can find it, a wonderful old film called "International House"(1938).  Burns and Allen show up, along with W.C. Fields, Bela Lugosi doing comedy(?!), and Cab Calloway and his band singing "Reefer Man", a comic ditty about marijuana consumption.
Lots of sex humour, gay jokes, drug jokes, and surrealistic slapstick -- an actual, working car exits an elevator full of people & drives through the lobby of a hotel.  It even has some science-fictiony elements.
Anyway, Burns & Allen have a long, great bit about life-lessons her aunt allegedly taught her -- priceless!
