Man I can't believe this movie only made 3 million opening weekend. And not only that, but Paul Anderson's Resident Evil 2 grossed higher and its already in its third week.

Seriously, Shaun of the Dead is one of the best movies of the year. It was the ultimate zombie movie. "Can I buy any of you c**ts a drink?" Everyone in the audience goes wild.  "Who died and made you king of the zombies?" But why did Ed die? I loved the guy. Either way I gave the movie a ten, even though I still kinda like Return of the Living Dead and Dead Alive more, which get perfect tens as well. Can't wait for the DVD.

Anyone hear Shaun talk about some guy named Ash in the electric shop?

This one has been on my "To See" list since it's inception.

Looked up the local theaters, none showing the film.  Not even Durham which is one of the bigger cities in NC!

I have a feeling this is gonna be a rental for me.  It's not playing within about 4 hours of  my house.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

no it's playing here at southpoint cinemas in durham, and over at the varsity in C.Hill. I'm going next week.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD is playing at a lot of theaters here in Phoenix.  I saw it last night and it was brilliant.

If you can, go see it now.  See it with a big audience.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

Maybe this is a sign that people are finally tired of "horror" movie comedies. I know I am. Let's see some real HORROR movies now.

The bad "horror" movies are comedies in themselves- they don't need to be made fun of. They do a good job of making themselves look stupid.

Mr_Vindictive

Tilebreaker, thanks for the news!  I might have to drive the 4 hours just to see it.

Localmovies.com didn't have it listed for Durham.

That's bizzare, try durham zip code 27702. Southpoint is a relativly new cinema, maybe 1 1/2 years. It's got 16 screens, next to the mall.

Mr_Vindictive

Yup, looks like Shuan and Dirty Shame are playing up that way.

Looks like I'll have to be leaving the coast for a little road trip soon

The thing is, Shaun isn't a "horror comedy" in the sense of Scream or some other awful piece of crap that gets its laughs making fun of the genre.  Shaun is a true horror movie that happens to be able to get laughs from things that people in real life would do and think in such situations.
You'd need to see Shaun of the Dead for this comparison to make perfect sense, but look at it this way:  In a realistic light, if zombies did start attacking humanity would you and your friends suddenly become paramilitary badasses armed to the teeth in a homemade fortress, or would you be scrambling to find a safe place and use everyday objects to protect yourself and attempt to retain a grip on reality and sanity?
The reason Shaun is so great and so funny is not that it disrespects the genre and its fans, it loves them.  It's the movie where the entire audience says "That's exactly what I'd do!"

There are only two important things in life - monsters and hot chicks.
    - Rob Zombie
Rape is just cause for murdering.
    - Strapping Young Lad

That reminds me, the exit off to my house is nearly  10yrs old and mapquest doesn't recognize it yet.

if you're really serious about coming up.
Southpoint will be the easier theater to get to. It's directly off I-40 on the fayettville st. exit. There's a ton of "shopping center/south point mall signs" leading up to the exit. The exit itself is probably about 4miles past the I-40 /durham freeway aka 147 split.  The theater is located behind the mall, near the barnes/noble, organized living, shops.

there's plenty of places to eat at the mall, but if you're interested.   get back on I-40 west (toward greensboro) take the exit where 15-501 (durham/chapel hill I think it says something about Duke U too) crosses over.  At that light turn right you'll pass a Bob Evans/ Outback/Home Depot directly. go down the hill cross Garrett Rd  (2mi)(BP station/Bojangles/Chilis) and stay straight through the light. Move over into the right hand lane take the 15-501 split pass MLK dr, up the hill merge.  You'll pass the following exits- cornwallis, erwin.  After the Erwin exit, it goes to 3 lanes, get in the far right lane pass the Moreene Rd Exit and prepare to exit off onto Hilsbourgh Rd. (roughly 1/2mi ahead)  (15-501 splits with what you're on now) pass the durham Freeway (147south) then Immediately prepare to get off on Hillsbourgh Rd (it's kinda tricky). Get in the left hand lane (next to the panhandlers) and turn left (pass the wafflehouse, BK, Miami Subs) stay straight. Go Through the Cole Mill Rd Light (tacobell/KFC) and Turn Right into The Strip mall (I don't think it has a name) with the White Star Laundry and Behold! In glorious Black and Chrome with a pink and blue neon Sign  that says COOK OUT!   -1/3lb cookout stlye add cheese, get some onion rings, and an Orange Shake.

to get back on 40 Is really easy- get back on Hilsbourgh rd (past wendy's), Then turn right (at the BP) to get breifly back on 15-501, stay in the right lane take the Second Durham Freeway (147 exit)  And stay Straight, That'll take you to I-40 and get you back on the path home.

I'm in the mountains and all we get are crap movies.  However, my husband and I are headed down to San Francisco this weekend anyway, so we're going to try & catch it down there.

I've been waiting for MONTHS to see this... I WANT A REAL MOVIE THEATER!

I would make a beeline for the nearest police station and stock up on as many weapons and as much ammo as I could carry.

AWESOME.  Loved the reference to "Day Of The Dead" where the guy was getting ripped open exactly like Pilato's character!
