An odd bit of  movie news, it appears these three are set to be in a movie named  "Glubina" which is being made in Russia,  It is based on a novel written by the guy who wrote Night Watch, which was turned into a movie that out sold  LOTR in Russia.

I saw the listing on IMDB and Campbell and Lee were in the acting credits, but no sign of Hauer.  Here's the link to the story which has the link to IMDB.

I wonder how  "Come get some!" sounds in Russian?

Bruce goes to Russia

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Since prettty much the only Russian films I've seen are Andrei Tartovsky films and parts of some scifi film from 1980 with hideous dubbing that I can't recall the name of, I'm curious to see "Night Watch" and any other genre films I could from other countries that we don't many non-art house or mainstream dramas out of.

Besides with Russia's history; folklore; and the current state of its politics, economy, culture, technolgy development, and crime level it seems a fertile area for genre storytelling. Here's hoping they can come up with interesting stuff and it can get seen here. Maybe if there's enough money to lure in Western actors there's something of interest happening.

Slight hijack: I'm just freaked out by the other story I clicked on there about possibly Pitof directing a US version of "Akira"! Talk about taking a bad idea and putting it in the wrong hands, two strikes before you even start to make the film.

NIGHT WATCH is awesome!  I picked up a Russian DVD (with English subs fortunately) and loved it.  It's a huge epic between good and evil that have an uneasy truce.  Each side has a watch to keep an eye on the other side in maintaining the truce.  The Day Watch in which the forces of Evil watch over the Good, and the Night Watch which keeps the Evil ones in check.  There are witches, vampires, shapechangers, magicians.  And then there are a few wildcards, regular humans with some supernatural abilities that could go either way and shift the balance.  Thing BLADE taken up to a cosmic scale.  Definitely worth a look.

You might also be interested in some recent Bollywood cinema (made in Bombay, India).  One I really liked was RUDRAKSCH, which similarly mixes myth,sci-fi, and action for an epic battle between gods and demons.  Think THE MATRIX mixed with the Ramayana.  Good stuff.
