Master Blaster

Yeah, that sucks. Oh well, I guess he's entitled to a turd or two. His short for Two Evil Eyes was an utter crapfest as well. Still, I'm sure we wont give up on him just yet.

Adrenochrome

There's always someone that never gets the first three films.
The kind of flick you're after  is Dawn of the Dead REMAKE.

"When there is no more room in Hell, the Dead shall walk the Earth."

blkrider

I think Romero's best film was the first one...after that he got too dragged down in the heavyhanded and overrated "social commentary" BS.  DAWN was still a good horror film but DAY was a big disappointment [it had the best zombie scenes but the zombies didn't get enough screen time.]  He hasn't made a good movie in a long time so I'm skeptical that LAND OF THE DEAD will be any good--still, at least he'll  either get a chance to make the movie he wants to and get back to the spirit of NIGHT and DAWN or else he'll finally be given enough rope to hang himself.  If he realizes that he's a horror film director and that movies are a poor medium for sending "messages" the film might be pretty good.

Master Blaster

You gotta admit, social commentary aside, the "Choke on em" scene was classic. Joe Pilato improvised that line so he will forever more go down in the Blaster book of badasses.

blkrider

Not to mention he was probably literally choking on the rotten guts that were being poured all over him! [I don't know if you saw the documentary on the DVD but the refrigerator's motor had gone out and the guts had been sitting there a while and they stank to high heaven!] I'll be the first to say that DAY had some of the best gutmunching scenes and the best special effects...I just wish that scenes like that had taken up more of the movie's running time.

Master Blaster

I havent seen the documentary but I did hear about that. Dude was a friggin trooper. Back in the day I used to fish for catfish sometimes with rotten chicken liver. Just a little container of it stinks all to hell. I couldnt imagine how bad the buckets of chum that poor bastard had to endure smelled.

blkrider

It was so bad that people had to wear masks when they were working on it before the cameras started rolling...poor Joe Pilato couldn't wear a mask, though!

Adrenochrome

If you slow that scene down, you can see a zombie on Joe's right side pulling out a blood soaked rubber chicken. I'm not making this up. :)
In the commentary Tom Savini mentions this.

"When there is no more room in Hell, the Dead shall walk the Earth."

trekgeezer

Their reporter becomes a zombie for the film.

I was a middle-aged zombie

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Master Blaster

I'm going to have to look for that. That's awsome. Anybody that works a rubber chicken gag into a dismemberment is alright in my book.

Prophet Tenebrae

I'm a bit concerned about the whole notion of the zombies becoming intelligent and such-like. I mean, really I thought that bub was pushing it too much. It's just far more preferable to have the living dead as mindless... eh... zombies, rather than some kind of intellectual nemesis for the dull witted inhabitants of horror films.

I also agree that the social commentary aspect probably went too far and so on. It's a bit boring to see the "oh, despite the fact humanity teeters on the edge of utter destuction everyone is still trying to f**k everyone over" I mean, it's been done so many times, it would actually be practically original if people just played nice and wasted a lot of zombies.
