I need a new DVD player

My DVD player quit working. I really didn't know what I was doing when I bought my first one. What features or info should I look for?

Look for progressive scan, component output or S video, pretty standard stuff .  My main criteria is that it plays dvds since my tv and audio system aren't exactly top notch anyway.  My dvd player is also getting a bit twitchy.  I don't trust it with my boxed sets or out of print discs anymore.

Get a multi-region player that will convert PAL to NTSC.  Basically it will open up the whole damn world for you.  Since I got my JVC, I've picked up DVDs from all over the world.  A lot of them that aren't available on R1 DVD.

dude , just bye a PS2 there only like 99.99 and its a gaming system as well as a dvd player that works quite well.
