Favourite Zombie film

PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES is an effectively creepy film. For a lot of us though, we saw it after we saw zombie films like DAWN OF THE DEAD, ZOMBIE and others probably conditioning us to expect more from it.

That being said, I did find PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES to be a little disappointing when compared to other Hammer films of the same era. The zombies as foes are not as menacing as I would have hoped.

One of my favorite atmospheric zombie films that from the pre-Romero era is WHITE ZOMBIE.

Even though I have only seen part of I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, what I saw was quite effective and I do, sometime, want to watch the full movie.

Even though I was not entirely satisfied with PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES, it is an interesting take on the genre done in the Hammer style. That reason alone makes it recommendable.

I caught I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE on TCM or AMC a couple years ago. I'm sure it will play again one day and your right Menard about which Zombie films a person may have seen first. Always liked the title of this film PLAGUE OF ZOMBIES.

WHITE ZOMBIE is the first good zombie film. Perhaps the first period. I'll have to look up when I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES, and KING OF THE ZOMBIES were made. They may all have been made in the 40's.

I've read many raves about it on other message boards. Check out the forums on www.allthingszombie.com. Another horror movie review site (I cannot which site it was -- sorry) gave it such a rave they said it was one of the best zombie movies ever. Believe me, it's nowhere close. It's boring and bad.

If "28 Days Later" isn't a zombie flick then the "Dawn of the Dead" remake isn't either. The creatures are quite similar in those two movies.

The ones in 28 DAYS LATER are not dead. Because of the disease and lack of food they are dying off by the end of the movie.

Although it does drag a little in places, and what a depressing ending, overall it is a pretty entertaining zombie movie. The special make-up effects were done by Giannetto de Rossi who also did the effects for ZOMBIE, CANNIBAL FEROX, and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST among others. It has a look and feel of what one might expect if Fulci did a zombie film for Hammer Studios, even though it preceeded Fulci's zombie cycle.

I think LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE is one of the more underrated zombie films--The story is a lot stronger than in most Eurohorror zombie flicks and it has some good gore scenes.  

My top 10 list, off the top of my head, helicopter-zombie style....

HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD [I know everyone hates it, but it's one of my favorite zombie films for the cheese factor]

probably BURIAL GROUND....or maybe one of the BLIND DEAD series.

Nope, no DAY OF THE DEAD or DEAD ALIVE.  Don't like 'em much.  I consider 28 DAYS LATER more of a plague picture a la THE STAND or WARNING SIGN--doesn't matter much, though, since I didn't like the movie to begin with.  

ZOMBIE 3 is truly fun entertainment, but I only have so much room for zombie comedy, and SHAUN, ROTLD, and the funnier moments of HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD fill that spot nicely.

The DAWN remake blew me away when I first saw it but hasn't stood up well to repeated viewings.  Still good enough to make the lower rungs of the top 10, though.

Resident Evil was my favorite.  Kinda crummy movie, but man, it had style!  There was an old movie as well, maybe called Curse of the Zombies or something.  Had a father-daughter team that were always bickering with each other.  The zombies didn't show up until the last few minutes.  

I'm really not too interested in zombie movies I'm afraid.

I have never really enjoyed movies about Zombies. I just saw "Dawn of the Dead" . I liked it. A few things like the legless zombie in the parking garage was a stretch. I predicted the baby thing. But all in all it was entertaining. A thumbs up!

The problem I had with the first Resident Evil was that the zombies just seemed like extras...they got their one big sequence and popped up a  few times after that but weren't really a big part of the movie.  

The second movie was much better as far as zombies went.
