Hey all,
there was a free sneak preview last night of Constantine at my school. I would reccomend this movie. There are a few legitimate scares and the beginning moves quickly. I think this also may be Keanu's best acting job ever (I know that wouldn't be too hard). There is some dark humor, and some real awkward scenes, but I would take this over Hellboy any day.

Also, I feel that this movie was produced by truth.com, but honestly, the whole anti smoking ad never gets old. Most of the fx are pretty simple but effective camera tricks, and a girl being pulled through a building will always be cool.

Has anyone heard any advanced word on that werewolf movie Cursed, Im excited about it.

Yea, the previews caught my interest a few months ago. I might check this film out.

Evan3, can you give us any examples of those anti smoking messages in "Constantine" (without getting into any real spoilers, if possible)?

Scott

The Occult from what I could make out from the preview.

Hey interested friends,
in any case, Constantine is based on some sort of video game and it is a lot like the Exorcist on steroids. There are tons of demons of all variety as well as angels. This movie has some very neat scenes in it and Keanu is the hero named John Constantine who has had the ability to see demons from the time he was a kid. He now fights demons in an attempt to get to Heaven when he dies.

As for the anti smoking, lets just say Constantine smokes a lot and it presents many problems. I don't want to give any spoilers though, so it is hard to delve into it.

Also, whoever plays Satan gets an A plus (in the movie Satan is clalled Lou... does anyone know why?)

Evan3, Constantine is based on the kickass comic "Hellblazer" by DC not a video game (even though one is coming out when the movie comes out).

I understand what you mean by the smoking thing. If you read the comic it does
present alot of problems for him.It got carried over to the movie because its one of his important features.

The comic is a Swamp Thing spinoff that's been going strong for over 200 issues now. Really an amazing read when a decent writer's at the reins. As a fan of the series, I have no doubt that the movie will leave me with a sour taste in my mouth. Constantine is American? It's set in L.A. instead of London? The director's done nothing but Aerosmith videos and the screenwriter was responsible for "The Glimmer Man?" Did they just try really hard to think of everything they could possibly do wrong...and do it?

Hellblazer is one of the best comicbook series I've ever read.  At first I was worried about this adaptation, especially after hearing it's going to follow the plot of Hellblazer's "Dangerous Habits".  It's by far my favorite, and one that I don't want to see ruined.

But the film has been getting good buzz overall.  I'll definently check it out on Friday.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

Hey all,
I am so embarassed I typed video game, I definitely realize that it is a comic book (though I have never read it.) In any case, yes, I know he is not British in the movie, but this is the same thing like complaining that Kingpin was black in Daredevil. I have talked to fans of the comics and on the whole they give it a thumbs up, and this really is in my estimation Keanu's best acting job. Rachel Weisz is British. Also, do you want Keanu to attempt a british accent? I have seen him in Much Ado About Nothing, you dont want to hear it.  I can't wait to hear your reactions to this film!

Also, have any of you read the comic The Exiles? The first story arc was phenominal, it is super heroes in a "Sliders" type setting. It deals with Abortion, death, and is real witty. Definitely check it out, the first story arc is a trade paperback.

In the comic books he was also blonde. He was modeled after Sting. One of many DC character inspired by big stars.

I still have yet to see the movie so I can't really comment on it that much... but does anyone here think casting Reeves was a mistake? It makes the movie seem like a rip-off of "The Matrix" in a way.

The Matrix + The Devil's Advocate = Constantine. :)

Also, do you think Reeves is trying to typecast himself into the action/adventure roll in an attempt to burn away his "Bill and Ted" days once and for all?

BeyondTheGrave

Evan3 I read Exlies. Its like you said "Sliders" with alittle "What if" (the old comic Marvel used to put out) thrown in. The first couple of story arcs are good (I like the idea that anyone on the team could get killed well expect for Blink) but when the original creative team left, none of the new people could "carry the torch". the art is pretty bad and it lost the feel it had. Like Evan3 said check the first story arc and see how you like it.
