.....since I've already seen the reactions elsewhere on the web, WHY are people automatically panicking and assuming that just because Sony owns MGM that means the death toll for the Midnite Movies line....or any other B movies MGM might possibly release on DVD?

I dont see the the petition is so much a panic reaction as much as just wanting to gaurantee the line continues. It's possible it may be completely unnecesary but it couldnt hurt either. Sony may not be aware Midnight Movies has such a devoted (and paying) fan base.
