Directed and Produced by Roger Corman

US Secret Agent XK150 is on the trail of a Sicilian mobster who has made a deal with the recently ousted Cuban governement to smuggle some of their people and part of the stolen Cuban treasury off the island. XK150 gets a job as a swabby on the boat.

The mobster means to exploit a local legend about a sea monster to knock of the Cubans and keep the treasury gold for himself. No one bothered to tell him there is a real monster.

I know Roger intended to make this a spoof, but most of the jokes don't really work and the monster has got to be one the worst I've seen. He looks to be made from wool yarn around some kind of frame with some sea weed stuck on for effect.  You can clearly see the hole where the diver can see out and the divers  flippers.

It was a boring 75 minutes.

Things to look out for if you have the stomach to watch this film.

Murder by toilet plunger.

A old timey crank telephone on a rocky out cropping on a seemingly deserted island.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Ah, CREATURE FROM THE HAUNTED SEA (1961) is an aweful film. I remember watching this one. The jazzy music drove me crazy and the monster had ping pong type eyeballs. I had some kind of Roger Corman Creature DVD Features back a while ago and I think it had four of his films on it. One of the other films was BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE (1959) directed by Monte Hellman under Roger Corman. Well, I guess we just had to see them. : )

BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE (1959) is shot at some kind of ski resort and cave. I was wondering if it was shot along with SKI TROOP ATTACK (1960), but found out it was made a year later, but I bet they were made the same week.

This monster is so unbelievably ridiculous!
"Creature from the Haunted Sea" must have been already in the year 1961 a trash movie.

I own it --
I watch it often
I couldn't love this film any more than I do:
The corny corny corny MAD Magazine humour . . .
The VERY bad monster costume . . .
The Cuban politics . . .
This is a brilliant shining turd in the water . . .
Worship it . . .

The one part I did get a giggle out of was the pre-credit teaser. The shoe shine guy puts a note in XK150's sock, he proceeds to be chased and shot at, then he ducks in a doorway and puts on totally preposterous looking moustache and shades and the bad guys don't recognize him anymore.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Oh, i had fun with this one. Its full of insanity. I'd say a high MST quotiant.
When XK150 is forced to eat his radio disguised as a pickle, i always say " His lower colon is gonna be picking up Terra Del Fuego about now"...

"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"

Gerry

I'm with Peter and Flange on this one.  I love this hilarious bit of crud.  It ain't high comedy, in fact it ain't anything, but it's damn entertaining IMO.

I also love the crazy love triangles going on all the time.  The monster is just icing on the cake here.

Vermin Boy

I have a Roger Corman tribute CD that features a band called Mouse doing an electric cover of the moll's song on the boat, complete with dialogue and sound effects. Priceless.
