Not sure when i'll watch these, either tonite or sometime this weekend. Library got in some new films so I decided to get a couple i've never seen before.

THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN While the dvd has quentin tarantino's pic and name all over it, kind of misleading, it's a hong kong film. The DVD promises: "sure to drive you wild. A powerful earthquake awakens a giant, ape-like creature who descends from the mountains into the treacherous jungles of India. Later, an expedition of greedy showmen capture the fearsome beast, bringing him...and the scantily clad blonde bombshell he protects..back to civilization! But payback comes when the mighty peking man breaks loose and begins to run amok in the heart of the city! And outrageous adventure that never takes itself too seriously."

Chinese king kong, only kong is really ugly and there's a white girl living in the jungle. Looks very bad..can't resist

The other one is "SHOCK CORRIDOR" 1963
All it basically says is a reporter has himself commited to a mental hospital to investgate a murder. As he closes in on the killer, madness closes in on him."
Criterian collection..that's about it.



So i guess i'll post a follow-up once i view them. The other one i got isnt' really worth mentioning "Who's afraid of virginia woolf". All i remember from the original is how she yelled alot.

I have THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN on DVD.  It's one of the most ridiculous man-in-a-gorilla-suit, King Kong rip-offs you will ever see.  Great for a few laughs.

Ack!  Did they do a remake of this one?  God, I hope not.  Dunno how long ago you viewed "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf", Susan, but it's an incredible, powerful film, well worth watching again(and again).  If you were perhaps too young the first time or something, give it another go.  It's worth it!

Sorry i couldn't resist posting a few more pics from the movie i haven't seen yet..lol

Sorry kobb, didn't mean to say original in that way, meant when i originally saw it years ago. The woman annoys me,  (if i was her husband in that movie i would have thrown her in front of a car..lol), i haven't seen it in about 10 years or so. Just thought i'd rewatch it and see how it works. They have alot of older movies to choose from, some classics and a few obscure ones. I wish they had more obscure. There's a few i'd want to see but can't even remember the names of. One was betty davis i think as some deranged nanny who the boy was convinced was trying to kill him. Then there was another film (i think, not sure if it was a tv show) b&w where two convincts i believe were in some woman's house. But i want to think there was some sort of a cage or something in the house and it seems like th woman was trying to convince one man in particular..it's all vague but sometimes the better known movies aren't as interesting to me.

I remember enjoying the Mighty Peking Man and had a great time with it. It's certainly one of the best giant ape movies ever done. I mean it's not King Kong (original) material but it's  actually ENTERTAING! Something a lot of giant ape movies are lacking.

Could it be Lady In A Cage from 1964?  Lady gets stuck in an elevator (cage) in her home and when she presses the emergency button she unwillingly attracts some burgulars.  One of James Caan's first flicks.

No need to apologize, silly!  I was dragged kicking and screaming into seeing "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf", but came out of it with a tremendous respect for Liz Taylor and Richard Burton(who were married in real life at the time).

Well i had to pause the movie to make lunch. So far re: THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN i'm about 45 minutes into the movie. It exceeds my expecations, honestly i expected very little. Even the gratutious plug for the love song is so cliche but hillarious.

Basically it starts off with mighty Peking man tearing up a village. Johnny  is on an expedition to find this legendary Peking Man. Shouting "Is anybody around" will spark a massive elephant attack so proceed with caution. The first 20 minutes is exciting!

1 Tiger Attack
1 Elephant Attack
Quicksand! (there just aren't enough quicksand scenes in movies these days)
1 leg eaten off
1 guy with leg eaten off shot
1 ass kicking
1 cliff accident
2 villages destroyed

Johnny runs into Samantha, a jungle bunny who's spilling out of her jungle bra. She swings on vines and leopards are her cuddle babies, she kisses and rolls around with them as much as possible. Johnny saves her when a snake bites her between the legs and he must suck out the poison!  After that the two grow very close, mighty peking man catches them in the middle of jungle love in the cave and gets very jealous, but after she lets him cop a feel he calms down. He knows he's the guy with the goods.Then they're off on a boat to exploit the mighty peking man!

This is a really fun saturday afternoon movie so far..lol

this was actually re released AGAIN (re re released) as part of the shaw brothers massive back catalog thingy.  If you liked this check out "the oily maniac" and "black magic".

Update:

Finished watching, very entertaining film. Lots of ape-foot stomping (particularly on hapless victims who trip, fall and then turn onto their back so they can see the mighty peking man's foot come down)......for the guys a little too much thong and boobie action for it's own good (at one point jungle girl decides her skimpy shiny western clothes are just too tight and throws them all out the window and rolls around on the bed gleefully) It's a mix between Sheena and King Kong. I couldn't quite figure out why everyone was Chinese except the higher ranking officers who were Caucasion. (they were dubbed twice, once i presume in chinese and then again in american translated from chinese as i noticed their lips weren't exactly saying what their voice was..heh) basically mighty peking man is exploited in hong kong while audiences have fresh tomatos to throw right on hand. Because throwing fruit at giant monkeys is fun!

It is a very ridiculous ape costume, the teeth actually move upward when he roars and the eyes nearly pop out. The only thing the movie was missing was a really good theme song. After watching this film I realized that the title could be a double entendre (as he was always peeking at her goods). The end is all to tragic but all too familiar, but it's worth watching.

If only people realized the best way to keep an ape from going ape is to throw sexy women at him instead of tomatoes. Apes need love too

Just finished to watch this trashterpiece (it just came out on dvd for the first time here in Italy). Very funny, some of the not-so-special fx were on par with those of the italian infamous "Yeti - Il gigante del XX secolo". It's blue back as you've never seen, see Utang fight toy trucks and peeping its blonde girfriend like a single man in a swinger club! Strangely, all the topless scenes are missing, but they are all in the trailer. Amyway, much more entertaining than De Laurentiis' official remake of king kong.

I have yet to be able to watch Mighty Peking Man all the way through.  I hate the characters, I hate the music, and I hate the Peking Man and that damned noise he makes.  Rarely have I had any difficulty enjoying such a goofy movie.

Love this movie. One of the greatest, most under-appreciated bad flicks ever.
