OT: Myspace madness

so has anyone else out there joined the online trend of getting a myspace account? i must honestly say that i got one just to read my friends online poetry but i have ended up meeting a few cool people. here's a link to my profile, anyone feel free to add me or check it out:

I'm a regular on several forums and almost everyone in them, except for here, has told me that I need to get my own blog.
Probably because of all the weird s**t that enters my head and all of the off the wall posts I create.

Chopper, I recommend ditching that Myspace and go with Yahoo! 360

Millions more people around the world use Yahoo! and you'll have a much better chance of getting noticed using 360.
My opinion of course.
The way I see it, why write a blog if you don't want anyone to read it right?  You go where the people are.
I'll never understand the mindset of a blogger who writes for only himself and not for the enjoyment of others...and I've talked to a few.

I'll be setting up my own blog there in the very near future.
You can imagine how crazy it'll be.
Here, I have to restrain myself.  Not in a blog of my own.

Exactly why nobody here has told you that you need a blog, since we get enough of you as it is, and we don't need to subject others to your madness!!!

Haha, but seriously, blogging is a good release, I'd imagine, though I'd think that perhaps it would be better to blog on a site which is [hopefully] independent from various companies, and perhaps join a group of bloggers or something [I really don't know how it all works though]

Many people do the things they enjoy for THEMSELVES, and this is especially true of artistic expression like writing, painting, sketching, etc.  I would think blogging fits this.

Writing your thoughts are a snapshot of who you are at that moment - what your perspectives are on the world, etc.  It can be fun or enlightening to read, ten years from now for example, what you wrote today.  If that's the case, who cares if anyone else reads what you write?

Also, if that's the case, who needs a blog?  Maybe a journal would be better.

Maybe for some, but not for me.  
I still admit that I do not, and probably cannot, or will not yet understand the mindset of a blogger who does not want to share his/her thoughts with the rest of the world right away.
Why create something if you don't want to share it with the world immediately?

Bloggers' writings are not like beautiful paintings or sculptures that will be appreciated and eventually be worth millions of dollars years from now are they?
Maybe they do contain sentimental value for their families after the blog writer has gone...

Yes, they are snapshots, right you are.
BUT,
10 or 20 years from now, the idea of the blog will be ancient history and what you and I write now will be long forgotten and disregarded by most except for our families and friends...Or us, if the servers that contain them haven't rusted into oblivion in a junkyard by then.

We're not publishing novels to be cherished by future generations here!
I look at blogs as things to be read right now.

If they are not to be read right now, they're called memoirs.

I guess that when it comes to blogs, there are two types of people who write them:

Those who look at what's right there in front of them and want people to read it right now in the moment.
Or....
People who write for posterity.

My opinion:
Posterity is for biographies, history books and wills.
Blogs are for the HERE & NOW!

See when i first got Myspace I wasn't impressed by it, then I started putting up my music pages and that became much more fun seeing how many plays I got and such.

Hmm.  I write my blog to amuse myself and my friends.  It's pretty much a snapshot of my brain, especially the web-crawling aspect of my brain.  I'm not really too concerned with a lot of people reading it.  It's nice when they do, but I know that it's only a couple of friends who read the damn thing.

It's also fun to go back and read what I wrote several months ago, or what my friends wrote a couple of months ago.  Also, I enjoy the whole leaving comments aspect of blogs.  It turns what would ordinarily be a journal into an extended conversation between friends, much like, I don't know, a bad movie message board.

Also, it would be much harder to hyperlink the text in a handwritten journal.

It's not for the purpose of becoming art looked at in 20 years, not at all. It's often a release, a way to express your ideas, opinions, viewpoints in a more creative manner than you could on a message board. It makes more sense than creating a website since those are more purposeful to be a certain topic.
