For years, I was trying to find the name of a movie that I only saw 5 minutes of as young kid, say around '79-'81. I even asked some of you if you had ever heard of the plot or not say maybe a year or two ago. What I remembered was that an old vampire was trying to revive his dead wife, and in the process she was turned into a black lady vampire. Crazy, I know. Anyway, the old vampire was played by David Niven, this something that I didn't remember at all, despite the fact that I've been a fan of his all of my life. (For some reason I remember someone else in the role.) Lastnight, I was watching Niven in 'A Matter Of Life & Death' (1946). So today I decided to scan over his filmography just to reminicse for a few minutes. And there it was - Vampira (1974) (aka Old Dracula). The movie is supposedly bad, bad, bad; perfect for this site. Now that I've found the title, have any of you seen this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071938/

I remember seeing this years ago, but not in detail.  I remember not wanting to remember it, though.
I looked on IMDB.com for David Niven's bio and was surprised to find he had passed away in 1983 from Lou Gehrig's Disease-aka amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS.  Truly a hideous, muscle wasting way to die, I have seen patients so paralyzed that all they can move is their eyebrows--fully conscious, alert and aware, but completely immobile.  I hope Niven didn't suffer for long.

Remember it. As it was playing the local theater near where I lived it at the time. Never saw it, though.

Interestingly enough, or maybe not, the man responsible for the script, Jeremy Lloyd, is also responsible for that long running perennial on PBS, "Are You Being Served?"

I can't believe that was made by the same guy! Because that show is hysterically funny!

I saw OLD DRACULA during its original theatrical release.  I seem to remember that it wasn't very funny, but it had at least 1 scene featuring a topless woman (which was a big deal for me because I think I was about 12 or 13 at the time) .  The TV spots had voiceovers by Wolfman Jack (or at least someone impersonating Wolfman Jack).

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."
