I've been listening to two shows that have narrators that are important to the quality of the show.
ROCKEY AND BULLWINKLE,  and DANGER MOUSE.
In short, they are part of the fun, and NOT an annoyance.
Not like, say, the narrator in THE ATOMIC SUBMARINE...who i wanted so badly to see him shot out of a torpedo tube!
Sooooo....

When has a movie ot T.V. show used a narrator for good effect, and when have you wanted to reach through the screen to throttle the liveing daylights out of him!
"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"

Good:  Dukes of Hazzard & Rocky Horror (Where's your neck!)

Scrubs and Arrested Development make good use of the narrator.

As does Adaptation, which is even funnier considering how that movie treats narration.

The Wonder Years.

I'll let you pick which.

Professor Hathaway:  I noticed you stopped stuttering.
Bodie:      I've been giving myself shock treatments.
Professor Hathaway: Up the voltage.

I thought they were funny in the most idiotic way. Might have something to do with the fact that I had half a bottle of Jack in me when I watched them... (insert redneck hoot here)  :)

Best : Walter Winchel on the Untouchables, Will Doizer on Batman, Waylon Jennings on the Dukes, Bill Conrad on Jay Ward's cartoons, Daniel Stern on the Wonder Years.

Worst: The first time I saw Dr. Who there was an annoying American narrator that said things like "The Doctor is thinking about ways to stop the Daleks." They apparently to those off the shows.

Also the narrator on the Beast of Yucca Flats. I think his problem was "he was caught in the wheels of progress."
