Best Steven Seagal film.

Where "his" in this case could equally represent Ben Affleck, among others. (*)

* To qualify as "his movie," I think he has to be the headliner, not some bit part or supporting role.

While the easy answer is Under Siege, I think his most impressive showing was actually his first: Above The Law.  This is where he was the new badass on the block, who almost literally just burst onto the scene and started beating down suckers without missing a beat...okay, the breaking of limbs still bugs me (but gunshots and bullet wounds usually don't--am I a wuss?), but he was just so damn good at it.

I think you're thinking of Out for Justice in which William Forsythe played the strung out coke head.

He is usually listed as a producer on most of his flicks so that probably has something to do with it.

I went with ABOVE THE LAW as his best, but I must admit I kinda liked UNDER SIEGE also and some of his earlier 3 or 4 films.

OUT for JUSTICE! Yeah,I always liked Wm. Forsythe in that role.He's really what makes the film.Segal is basically dull.

Steven's movies are at their best when he's got a great supporting cast around him.

That's the reason why Under Siege worked so great was because of Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones chewing up the screen.  That, and Erika Eleniak getting naked didn't hurt either.   

In fact, the only time I've ever really seen Steven try to emote at all is during the scene in Hard to Kill when he screams after his wife is shot near the beginning.

But his limited acting style did suit his earlier movies like Above the Law as he was just such a bad@ss in that movie that he didn't really need to act all that much.

That actually doesn't make sense.  More accurate would be Steven Seagal isn't...Above the Law.  The whole point is that no one is above the law.

Under Siege is my favorite, but #2 is probably Exit Wounds.  Post-Exit Wounds, Belly of the Beast is pretty good - not surprising considering awesome Chinese director Ching Siu-Tung helmed and choreographed it.

The great thing about the majority of Steven Seagal's movie titles is that whenver I'm in a DVD store and see a new flick of his on the shelf (which seems to be about every week  ) I always have to blurt out   "Steven Seagal  IS  ...(insert name of movie here)."   

Never fails to crack me up.

What's the one where he fights arctic animals, such as referenced in a Family Guy? A friend of mine, no joke, watched it in her philosophy class. I took that class, but we didn't watch that. Too bad too...

On Deadly Ground had the visions of him with polar bears and him realizing that Mother Nature wanted him to kill polluters, etc...

I only got to watch Johnny Mnemonic in a philosophy class.

Put the words, "Steven Seagal is..." in front of most of his early film titles.

I think I am outnumbered here, as I prefer Seagal when you don't have to take him seriously. I think his first movie I enjoyed was Under Siege 2 (and on the big screen, imagine). It's just so fast moving and funny, with that chessy villain. Couldn't help but liking it.

I also enjoyed Glimmer Man, Half past Dead, Out for a kill and Belly of the beast, which was sort of Ok for a late Seagall flick. I can't stand his latest direct-to-DVD output, though, it's just too boring and impersonal you can't even laugh at it.
