Favorite Kurt Russell Movie

I voted for Big Trouble In Little China as a kind of all around favorite. My other picks would be The Thing, Escape from NY, Used Cars, Tango & Cash. I liked his acting in Dark Blue and Backdraft, but I thought he was better than the films.

One of the things I like about Jack Burton is how full of crap he is until it counts, the times he does something without trying to show off or spout off, it works. You have to be a good comedic actor to get laughs out of being the man of action who doesn't do very much or screws it up for most of the film. Jack knocking himself out firing the gun at the ceiling, Jack dropping the magazine and missing the fight, Jack making his big speech to Lo Pan with lipstick on his face, etc.

Used Cars gets better every time I see it. I gave a copy to a guy at worker who has taken a part-time job selling cars as a joke. He took to calling it his training film.

I voted for ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK because that film concept was so great.

As for the best Kurt Russell film I'd have to say TOMBSTONE.

Also liked USED CARS, THE THING, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, and SOLDIER.

The very first film that I remember Kurt Russell in was THE STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD which I really liked as a kid. Saw it at the theater.

Soldier was a pretty generic movie, but Kurt really did turn in an underratedly good performance in it.  Especially since he had to do the majority of it with his eyes and his face.

I think I'd still have to go with Escape From New York as Kurt at his monosyllabic best, though.

Soldier and Breakdown were both pretty good, Russell-wise, but I too have to go with Escape from New York, I never get tired of it. The Thing will probably be my favorite all time John Carpenter film, but Kurt seemed more appropriate for "New York" and "Big Trouble".

which, i think john carpenter's version is much better than the 50s original.  always thought the original was overrated.

I picked Big Trouble In Little China, since he does really stand out there, and Jack Burton is probably one of my favorite all-time characters. He's more human than the usual wise-acre stereotype, and is just as funny for it. It's truly a shame he didn't get the treatment Snake Plissken did, with more movies.
