One of the things I cannot bear about our culture in the USA is the way we have to re-do everything for the "American" audience -- I have never ever seen one of these remakes succeed.

Take, for example, "The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe" -- in French, this is a hysterical screwball comedy, rife with slapstick & over-the-top scene-stealing antics from the whole cast.  Really worth checking out, if you haven't already seen it.  It had to be remade by an American studio.  It failed.  Same with "The Goat", and just about any other film I can think of.  I don't count "The Magnificent Seven" as a remake of "The Seven Samurai", as the whole film was re-imagined & only used Kurosawa as a point of departure.

It just isn't terribly funny, the one liners seem very forced. At least they kept Robert Llewellyn as Kryten shoehorning him into the plot of the very first episode "The End".

The American versions of British things are the most pointless, it's not like it's a different language even. Hollywood thinks middle America is too stupid to even understand that 'lorry' means 'truck'.

How about the other version of the American Red Dwarf - the one with Deep Space Nine's Terry Farrell as a female version of The Cat? Anyone seen that one?

I agree. That 90's Bill Cosby sitcom simply entitled "Cosby" was an American take on One Foot in the Grave. Of course, it was NOTHING like that show at all. I think the most success ever had was the 70's/80's sitcom Three's Company, which was an American version of Man About the House.

How about how they changed the book (and subsequent film) title from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone? Were they afraid some kids might not know how to use a dictionary if they were unfamiliar with the first one?

That is just terrible terrible terrible...

On a side note the 'star' Craig Bierko ended up onto bigger and better with a great role on Boston Legal for a while there. [on a down note he was in a few of those Scary Movie type silliness.]

If anything proves Brit can work as Brit in the U.S. its Nick Park and Arrdman studios.
FLUSHED AWAY was all London based, and it worked just fine, thank you. And CHICKEN RUN? Nuff said.
