Animated goo??

Hello,

I need sum help figuring out the title of an animated movie i saw when i was much younger(sometime in the mid 90s)

I dont remember much just that there was some kind of king or emperor. he was obviosly the ruler of a kingdom. There was some kind of black goo or evil. this goo sort of took capture or made the king sick and pale. the rest of the movie was some sort of quest to help the king out and get him better.

The movie was pretty dark for a childs animated film from what i remember, and I want to say it almost had a candy cane laneish feel to it.

Any help would be great!

This sounds a lot like "Little Nemo:  Adventures in Slumberland" (1989).

I sure hope thats the movie you're thinking of. One of my favorites and the animation still stands up today.
