Take your pick:

QuoteUnder apartheid many films, some of them fine ones with artistic merit, were cut, banned and sidelined for reasons including explicit sex, content that was not in line with Christian values, interracial relationships and interracial violence.
Is it October yet?

^ There wasn't any interaccial ANYTHING in the BIG BOSS. Everyone was Chinese.

I'm not saying there was anything interracial in The Big Boss. It was usually one of the main reasons during apartheid in South Africa.

The Big Boss was most likely too violent. It was censored for violence in many countries.

The head of the apartheid censor board, Professor Kobus van Rooyen stated that his predecessors banned martial arts films for black cinemagoers for fear that "people would become unduly influenced by what they saw on screen" 🙄

With Van Rooyen's arrival in 1980, film censorship began to ease and no more martial arts films were banned.

I should just add that the apartheid censor board never had to give a reason why they banned a film or anything else for that matter. They had some scary powers. 😳😳

Quotecontent that was not in line with Christian values
That just sounds like a general "Well, nothing here was really offensive, but we just didn't like it," catch-all reason.

Correct. The apartheid censor board submitted most of the "undesirable" material to itself. Crazy buggers 😳

Don't get me wrong and think I am suggesting you shouldn't do this, Trevor - I think this is a worthy and important act of historical documentation. But I pretty quickly thought (knee-jerk response) it would be way easier for you to post a list of movies not banned in South Africa!
