Hoo boy.  You guys warned me against Sci-Fi Original films, but dopey ol' me, I watched it anyway.  It was AWFUL!

Basic plotline:  Scientist is working on a huge frozen mammoth,  and spots a small metallic sphere imbedded in the mammoth's skin on one of the XRays of the beast.  He bores into the block of ice to retrieve it, and when air hits the sphere it emits a pulse that is picked up by a flying saucer hovering around Jupiter.  The saucer releases an orb that crashes to earth like a meteorite and melts the ice, re-animating the mammoth and sending it on a killing spree.  Frank, the scientist, aided by his perky daughter Jack, his father, played by Tom Skerritt or someone who looks a lot like him, and a federal agent try to figure out how to kill the alien/mammoth before it can kill and suck out the life force from everyone in town.
Interesting extras: two deputies who are dumb by even B-movie standards, a fat sheriff named Marion Morrison (yes, John Wayne's real name), and a coroner who has a severed hand that is possessed by a similar alien sphere.  He keeps it in the deep freeze but can re-animate it by putting it in the microwave for one minute.  Oh, and the alien knows sign language.

This is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen.  Oh, and the mammoth is one of the worst CGI creatures ever - looks like he walked off the computer screen where someone was playing an older version of TUROK: Son of Stone.

I watch the Sci-Fi channel Saturday night movie almost every week, I like the survival tips, even if the movie is bad the tips can be funny. The movies are usually mediocre but occasionally there are some gems. I really enjoyed Frankenfish, Webs, and quite a few more. I think Dog Soldiers is good by anyone's standards. I watch because you never know what exactly will be on, usually just dumb, sometimes really awful, but once in a while they show some good stuff, and as my dad used to say "If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you fat."

ER

You describe it so well, indy, I feel as though I've watched every silly second of the film. :-)

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

This movie is so terribly wonderful :teddyr: Alien-possessed Zombie Mammoth is pretty close to Giant Anti-matter Space Buzzard in the top monster movie creature ideas. I don't like a lot of Scifi's Originals but I love this one :bouncegiggle:
