80s electro teen sexploitation film?

I have been trying to think of the name of this movie my buddy and I rented in college.

It's very low budget, and I believe it takes place in NY. The acting is lethargic and terrible. It has to be in the early 80s, and I remember everything (decorations, clothing, etc) was done in a sort of electro new wave sort of fashion.

The plot seems to revolve around a bunch of young models. They do a lot of drugs, have a lot of sex, and I seem to remember it being implied that one girl got raped several times in one day. Everyone is very proud of living this sort of fabulous lifestyle.

The thing that is supposed to drive the plot is that some sort of aliens invade and take over people's minds. The film occasionally cuts to the aliens' view, which was like an infrared light.

I hope I have all these details correct and that someone knows what I'm talking about. It was a truly ridiculous, awful movie.

Thanks for your help

Trevor may be onto something, a lot of this matches LIQUID SKY.  Here's a sample of the infrared alien point of view:

It is indeed Liquid Sky. Thank you.

Though looking it up on Wikipedia, I'm baffled as to how it is so highly-acclaimed.
