If anyone ever sees this hour-long PBS movie that is on VHS anywhere and for a cheap price, pick it up. This one hour flick(actually it's about five or so minutes short of an hour, but seems to count the credits as part of the film) grab it. It's based on a Ray Bradbury story set in the future and is an absolutely, so bad it's funny type of flick. It's supposed to be a drama but there is so much stupidity in it that the drama gets lost.

Basically it's about a wheelchair bound kid who decides he wants to be an astronaut but gets the runaround from NASA and his friends think he's crazy. In most movies the parental characters try to nuture their kids far out seemingly impossible dreams. Not here though--in fact he is PUNISHED for wanting to be an astronaut!

Other funny stuff:

The "high-tech" computer. This will without a doubt get you laughing.

the magic ghost trick. I'm unable to really describe this--although I'm planning to post a reveiw and I'll try it then.

his teacher's teaching methods. Well they are "different"

However I think the funniest thing is the fact that the school forces them to play B-Ball RIGHT NEXT TO THE NON-DISABLED KIDS!

Is constantly being forced to see other kids leap and jump about, supposed to help their self-esteem? The school seems to think so.
God, why did some moron decide to ruin the Dukes Of Hazard with Jessica Simspon as Daisy? Yeaaaaauuurrrgggghhh--the HORROR!

I remember watching this in English class in high school for some reaon (who knows why; I don't remember reading the short story before hand or anything).

SPOILER, if you really can call it that:

The only part that sticks out in my mind, for some reason, is the crutch (I think) flying off into space at the end... it stands out not because it was so deep and meaningful, but because it was jerky and queer looking, like it was animated in stop motion instead of just spinning an actual crutch around.
