I love this film because no matter what mood you are in this film will always be easy to watch. I makes you want to take Howard home and makes you fall in love with Lea Thompson who is so hot in this film.

I saw this movie because I thought it was that cigar smoking duck from that strip in Penthouse, how wrong I was! It was one of those happy accidents for me though! How can something so bad be so good. Watched it twice in two days and told all my friends to see it. They all said it was... OK .... I guess... But they didn't get it (well, a few of them did)
Hey, I remember years ago reading an interview Tim Robbins did, and they asked him about Howard the Duck, and did you know that movie could have went in another direction? It could have been a somewhat darker and grittier movie, but Lucas decided to keep things "cute" ... one can only imagine the movie that might have been,but hey....
Now that the movie has finally come out on DVD, I'm getting it and putting it on the shelf next to "Mom and Dad save the world" "Showgirls" "Heavy Metal" "Wizards" and every other guilty pleasure I've managed to collect.

This movie has got to be one of the GREATEST kids films of all time.  Look at lots of those junky kids films they release today... nothing compares to the good stuff from the 80s.  HTD was a joy to watch as a kid, and I'd say Lea Thompson was just sooooo sexy, probably my first celebrity crush! Just couldn't get her out of my mind, and she can give a good performance and rock too.  I remember watching it on TV all the time, taped it, and watched it over and over...

Now where's the 2 Disc THX remastered picture DVD????  Please no digital cgi crap, just remastered picture of this classic childhood gem!!

if you look at the credits, the movie was p layed by 8 different poeple....now...why would it be played by 8 different people?  bc they were children and thye have to obey the child labor laws.

it kind of makes this movie all the more creepy

The film was ok, it wasnt pushing any boundries with anything - sure they could have made Howard look a bit more like the comics, they could have not employed the guy that plays Phil all in all it was a just light hearted film. I know people are paid to review films like others are paid to share their views on other things - end of the day it your own opinion, its the marmite effect you either love this film or hate it.

To be honest if a film gets people to openly share an opinion (good or bad) then it left an impression and the more media hype you give it only makes for the commercialists to rebrand it and say it contreversial so on...

Those were ALL 'little people' actors, adults each and every one...and the main scenes were played by Ed Gale, a well known little person in Hollywood...

I loved this movie when I was a kid back in 1986 and I still love this movie. I watched this movie alot over and over and over back then. Then during the 1990s I pretty much toned down my watching of the old 1980s classics like Lost Boys and Monster Squad since I was pretty much busy with middle school and high school

Now lately since 2000 I got back into the bad habit of watching my old childhoold movies from the 80s again. I'm glad there's finally a DVD for Howard the Duck.

I dont care if this movie is bad or whatever. That's the whole point. Campy, cheesy, corny and a bit adult themed in certain parts like Beverly wearing some sexy underwear and trying to seduce Howard LOL

The movie would have been SO much better if they had followed the story of the actual comic book (which was quite good and had some pretty interesting elements to it) instead of 80's crapping it all up.  Then again, the Howard comic would be very VERY difficult to translate to live action and I don't think most average people not acquainted with the comic would understand it.

It's kind of funny you should choose to update this review, since this movie was getting mentioned a number of times in response to the Youtube video, Sex With Ducks.

Funny coincidences. I don't have any desire to watch Howard the Duck again, particularly after learning what the comic book industry did to the creator of the character (screwed him over big time), but thanks for the trip down memory lane.

By the way, those opposed to gay marriage should probably not watch that Youtube video...

Wow, I do so sincerely hate this film. It's a shame that this is how everyone remembers Howard. Back in the 1970s, Howard was really huge as a comic book character. Filled to the brim with pop culture parody. When creator Steve Gerber handled him, he was at the top pf his form.

Nowadays when you say "Howard the Duck," most folks (even many comic fans) say "Oh, that horrible movie."

Initial but damning evidence that George Lucas was and is an insane hack of epic levels who struck gold once in his career with a combination of timing, luck and having the right people supporting him- and by the right people I mean those who can actually write compelling screenplays with interesting dialogue and believable characters who didn't tremble before the weight of his ego and weren't afraid to tell him how full of sh*t he was.

I just rewatched it today.  I gotta say, I really liked it, moreso than I did back when I first saw it.

I've never been able to find issues of the comic, so I can't say it's strictly adhering to it, outside of using characters from the book.

But, on the whole, I don't think it's as TERRIBLE as people make it out to seem.  And I gotta say, Lea Thompson was smoking for this flick.  I was like, "Mrs. McFly? Hot? In panties?"
