Since we had some unexpected bills this year and I didn't get to purchase all the stuff I wanted, I let it be known to everyone that my Christmas wish list was comprised solely of DVD's.

Two classic staples in there, with "The Stuff" and "C.H.U.D."  Keeping an Amazon.com wish list turned out to be a good idea for me, because my family likes to get me some DVDs, but often cannot decide what (or are worried that I might already own it).  Your sister should be commended, her B-DVD Fu is expert.

I got a rock.

Actually I got two new pairs of shoes, a pair of pants and I get to finish my final semester in college. I feel bad this year though. I sold off about one hundred and fifty of my old VHS' to a local store. I got rid of a large collection of young Jackie Chan kung fu, Bruce Le kung fu, and obscure 80's slasher. In high school I collected anything connected to makeup artist Tom Savini so I had a bunch of his work. I bring this up because when ryan vs. godzilla said he got a copy of C.H.U.D. I remember I sold mine with the bunch. I debated it, but in the end it went... *tear*. I saved my favorites and hard to gets, but my collection is about half what it used to be.

But I got trade credit for my movies! In exchange I've already bought a Pauline Kael review book, a Hitchcock analysis, a Woody Allen bio I like very much and a couple books of black and white ads from the 20's and 30's. I'll go back in a day or two and get more when I know what I want. Any suggestions of broad characters, actors, or stories I should look out for in the used store? What did everybody else get?

I got Land of the Dead, on DVD.  Also related was a very special gift from my sister.  She gave me the out of print edition of The Little Shop of Horrors which has the alternate ending on it.  Price has fallen since the peak of $200+ it went for a few years back, but it is still rare and expensive. 

Quite cool, and I totally didn't expect it.

Re.  Suggestion of stuff to look for:
If you want to go for a complete set of someone worth owning a complete set of, look for films written and directed by Preston Sturges (The Lady Eve, Sullivan's Travels, etc.).  Look him up online.  People tend to overlook him & his stuff is usually pretty cheap if used, as he's still obscure enough that many people who should know better pass him by.  As you like Woody Allen & are interested in things from the '30's, etc., this guy should be right up your alley.
Also, any and all films produced by Val Lewton (Curse of The Cat People, White Zombie, Bedlam, etc.).  Lewton didn't direct, but, like Selznick, his imprimateur is all over these.  I picked up recently a VHS of Curse of The Cat People for $1.  A masterpiece!!

Sure is.  Well I'm not sure about the son part, but it is Max Brooks at least.

A must have really, for any Zombie fanatic like myself.  The few pages I have read of both so far have been great.  The handbook speaks for itself: offering advice on any number of things from 'appropriate weapons' [with the pros and cons of each] to advice on various locations to look for in time of crisis and what makes for a good defense strategy/long term survival pointers.

World War Z takes a more fictional approach of a journalist who goes around the world interviewing various people of interest after a world wide zombie infection.  It's much more somber [so far] at times and takes a more realistic path into the way certain people act or acted.  I think it's just these 'interviews' and so far has made good reading, but haven't had enough time to really get cracking with it.

Get em, Rombles.  As a zombie fan yourself, it really is required reading.

They just re-released most of Sturges' films on DVD in a collection.  I've been considering buying it, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
