According to DavisDVD.com, MGM Home Entertainment will be releasing both NIGHT OF THE COMET and SOLARBABIES to DVD on March 6th. No disc details yet but both will be retail priced at $14.98 each.

And this one may only appeal to me, but Sony announced a February 6th DVD release of BEST OF THE BEST 2, one of the great guilty pleasure, chop schlocky flicks of the 1990's. I don't know what amazes me more to this day - that I saw it in theaters three times or that it actually got released into theaters.

Oh, and for those that love the current trend of releasing name-only DVD sequels to theatrically released movies that didn't warrant a sequel but made enough money on DVD to convince the studio execs otherwise, the prequel DUKES OF HAZZARD: THE BEGINNING hits DVD shelves on March 20th. On the positive side, nobody from the theatrical version will be back. On the negative side, they still made another one.

But first on February 20th, WALKING TALL: THE PAYBACK arrives, which is essentially the same exact movie but with Kevin Sorbo in place of The Rock. You better like it because they've already made a third too. The WALKING TALL sequels also answer the question: Whatever happened to Yvette Nipar?

Night of the Comet, well my dad's old girlfriend will be happy. She had a strange fascination with that movie. Plus, because of that movie we had to explain to her what an Uzi was.

Never saw Best of the Best 2, but remember being surprised as well by a theatrical release, seemed like straight to video material like most of the genre stuff at the time that didn't feature a big name lead. My sister did see it on a date IIRC. I only remember this because the boyfriend was the first one of her's I got along with after several I didn't.

A Dukes prequel? Guess it won't just be an updated remake of The Moonrunners, wish more fans of the TV series had seen the original film.

A sequel to the Rock version of Walking Tall? So Kevin Sorbo has found his level, post-Andromeda. What new menace will arrive in town? After the Rock destroyed the casino in the first movie, I figured the town was left without an industry or business anchor and lots of meth addicts, except in the last few seconds of the film we see smoke rising from a stack in the lumber mill.
blah blah stuff blah blah obscure pop culture reference blah blah clever turn of phrase blah blah bad pun blah blah bad link blah blah zzzz.....

Night Of The Comet on DVD eh?  I'm glad I've waited on buying a bootleg DVD from Ebay.

Can't wait to pick this one up.  Haven't seen it in about 10 years or so.

"Night of the Comet" on DVD is good news for a lot of people.  It is a common film that people have seen, but do not remember the title.  I will have to get the Solarbabies DVD, just because that movie is stunningly bad.  Orphans on rollerskates discover a glowing blue orb, named Bodhi, and with its help they free the world's water from the evil government.

Quite enjoyed Night of the Comet.  Perhaps not enough to upgrade my VHS copy though.  I have a friend who's mother loves Night of the Comet though (one of her favorite all-time, kinda funny), he'll probably get it for her.

Excellent news. I always thought Catherine Mary Stewart was really cute, so now I can put this one alongside another one of her movies, The Last Starfighter. Now we just need a Nightflyers DVD.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

"Nightflyers" - with the strange "Dune"-knockoff ship if memory serves.  I have an old VHS of that one.  At the least, it was an interesting movie in that it does not fit the normal model for films on starships.

If you enjoy seeing Mrs. Stewart, I am guessing you also have The Apple?

Alas, not yet. I hadn't even realized she was in that one.

This is sweet news.  Now I'll get to relive all the bad 1980s clothes/hairdos.

I thought was was every movie from the 80's?

Alas, not yet. I hadn't even realized she was in that one.

Not only one of the main characters, but she does a good bit of singing.  That is what "The Last Starfighter" should have been - a musical.  Great numbers, such as:

"Death Blossom Techno"
"I've Got A Gung-Ho Iguana"
"Meteor 's Keep Raining Down On Me"

and the best

"My Boyfriend Is A Replicant Android"

With musicals of Reefer Madness and Evil Dead, a musical version of the Last Starfighter is starting to sound pretty good..

I was starting to worry that Solarbabies wouldn't ever be released on DVD.

Damn...assuming I'm remembering it right, Best of the Best 2 had an absolutely kickass swordfight scene near the end with Phillip Rhee and some other guy at full speed...

I have to agree with this, although I'm going to struggle to pay any money for "Solarbabies". Night of the Comet is actually a decent movie, if memory serves.

Night of the Comet is one movie that I wouldn't mind seeing re-made today.  Oh wait.......................it already kind of was in the form of the awful 28 Days Later.  :hatred:

It used to be on HBO all the freaking time in the 80's along with Beastmaster   (I like that joke that comedians used to say in the 80's that HBO actually stood for Hey Beastmaster's On!).

I'm hoping that MGM does a full anamorphic widescreen transfer of it. Maybe a director's commentary track would be nice as well.
