I think the original Rocky is his best film, but I would have to go with Demolition Man as my personal favorite.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

"Rocky" is his best film but I went with "First Blood". Just enjoyed a bit more. A personal favorite of mine is "NightHawks". Filmed here in NYC and starts Billy Dee Williams and Rutger Hauer. Need I say more

I also like most of his later films like Daylight, Cliffhanger and Judge Dredd. To bad action movies where getting passe at the time and he had to disappear for awhile. Only doing small parts here and there. Surprised he didn't do crappy comdies, Tv or direct to video action movies like so many action stars. He did that 3D kids film. Shark boy and lava girl I think it was called.

Thinking about it Bruce Willis was one of the very few action stars of the that stuck around well into 90s and 00s that didn't do any of the above things I mentioned but thats a different topic.

D-Man

Rocky will always be his best work, but Rocky III has always been a guilty pleasure of mine.  I loves me some Clubber Lang, and suddenly Jewish Mickey.   :teddyr:

Stallone may have had a few decent performances, but I think my late father was right when he said that Stallone should have focused more on screenwriting as opposed to acting, because he wrote some pretty good stuff back in his day.

I voted for First Blood.
I can watch that movie over & over and never get tired of it.

You forgot to add "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot!" and "The Lords of Flatbush".

Rocky will almost always be considered Sly's finest hour as an actor and a filmmaker, but I have a softer spot for First Blood (a remarkably nonviolent violent action film) and, as of late, F.I.S.T. (not exactly a classic, but definitely a unique film for Sly--and he worked it like crazy).

Demolition Man, of course, goes without saying.  Even if Wesley Snipes did totally steal the movie.  "The Schwarzenegger Library?"

As for Judge Dredd...oh, lord.  Apart from The Helmet Issue, and the fact that it jacked its ending entirely from Demolition Man, the first--oh, half-hour or so of the film was a promising, visually gorgeous, and admittedly slightly satirical action movie.  And then comes the transport crash, and the whole damn $120M+ thing wastes what good karma it had as it plows into a wall doing eighty.  (But damn, from a visual standpoint this was a hell of a film.  There are films now that don't have VFX that good--or, rather, that seamless.  And the awesome black Judge armor is still the baddest armor of that stripe I've ever seen in a film.)

Voted Copland. A very good drama i think, where he plays this pathetic character. He does this surprisingly well!

Neville

On the serious side, I'd choose Copland. Stallone was just excellent, and I find it's a pity he's not given as good material as that more often.

On the guilty pleasures category, I'd go with some of his later stuff, like Cliffhanger or even Detox. I'd love to see the uncut version of this one, it's one of those movies that are screaming for more running time.
Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I voted for Rocky, but I have to confess to never having seen any of the Rocky movies.  Nor any of the Rambo ones either.

I did like Demolition Man.

ulthar

I voted FIRST BLOOD.

I also enjoy CLIFFHANGER.  As completely implausible as it is, it's fun to watch.  Lithgow plays a good bad-guy.

I'll also not turn DEMOLITION MAN off if I happen to find it channel surfing.

Interestingly enough, I've never gotten into the Rocky movies.  There's no doubt ROCKY has made it's cultural mark, though.  I agree with the others who have said this is his BEST movie, but not MY personal favorite.

I voted for Rocky as his best. Two of my other favorites of his, though, are Assassins and Victory.

First Blood, a classic or Eye See You, one of the few current ones I believe he didn't get the golden raspberry for.

And yes, where is Italian Stallion? :tongueout:

Mr. DS

Tough topic...I'll have to give the first nod to Rocky IV which I know isn't the best out of the series but my personal favorite.  First Blood a close second followed by Demolition Man.   I do recall enjoying Lock Up though. Night Hawks was a real good movie also.
