So i'm watching kung pow:enter the fist with my mom and it gets to the part where the chosen one goes to the medow and fights the kung fu cow. At that point, she left the room saying "this movie just went over the top." The next night Im watching Hitchhikers guide to the galexy and my step dad walks in at the part where the presidents extra head gets choped off as collatoral. He says "what the hell is this?" i tell him, and he leaves the room shaking his head.

And somehow they manage to sit thru all of "gone with the wind" and countless cheesy disney movies.

I'm giving you credit and presuming you had a point in there somewhere. Would you mind sharing it with the rest of us? :tongueout:

as long as your dad wasn't shaking his extra head! just kidding. parents just don't understand.

I had to watch pretty much everything in secrecy when I was a teen. Now I'm all eff'd up. Faces of Death & pot don't mix very well when your 15. I got over it though. Had some bad nightmare for awhile. I can handle fake gore now just not the real stuff. I told you I was eff'd up.

Menard, I can always count on you to pick on me about SOMETHING.  :tongueout:

I guess there's not really a POINT to it, man. It's an observation, I guess. Make of it what you will.

I come home from work and find my wife is in tears from laughing so hard at the thought of the mom and dad's reaction to these two movies, she asked me to read the thread and then got hysterical while I was doing that.
I think your mom's reaction to Kung Pow, Enter the Fist was sort of understandable, at least for me, I didn't find the film as funny as some people do, but I wouldn't walk out on it, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a classic, do your step-dad a favor and get him to watch it from the beginning, that way he'll at least know what's going on and I'm sure he'll enjoy it, us old folks actually do enjoy these movies if you just give us a chance.
My wife is now out on the porch trying to smoke a cigarette, and she's still laughing, she can't even remember what she wrote. KYGOTC you made her very happy, she just came back in and she's still laughing.  :bouncegiggle: :bouncegiggle:

I'm sorry but when I came home to my laughing wife I just had to comment and in my haste I didn't log her out and me in, but then I don't handle stress well.

That reaction can go both ways.I was caught watching  DRACULA vs. FRANKENSTIEN by my (then ) 10 year old son Jed. It was the part were Dracula ripped off both of Frankies arms, and he's staggering around. Jed says What are you watching,Dad?!" I said DRACULA vs. FRANKENSTIEN. Wanna watch it with me? It's good." He says, very bluntly,"It looks stupid." And goes into the kitchen to dig in the frig.

I've had my kid walk out on a number of the films I've watched. Calling them stupid, weird, dumb, strange, odd, etc. I just tell'em they like a refined taste in cinema. to which I get a "Whatever."

The Other Half regularly rolls her eyes at what I watch, especially if it involves zombies, kaiju or is in a langauge other than English.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

psst . . .
Get your Dad and Mom and you too to watch the BBC TV version of "Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy", which is superior in just about every way to the poor recent film/cinema version that came out.
For one thing, the BBC TV version actually is taken from the book.  God alone knows where the film-makers got some of their stuff from, despite Doug Adams being given screenwriting credit.  He's dead, you know . . .

I liked the film of Hitchhiker's despite the changes, not a lot, but just enough. Zaphod's other head apparently way a bit much for lots of people not familiar with the earlier versions, and many fans hate how they portrayed the other Zaphod.

Peter, from what I've read Adams did contribute to the script, the religious cult revolving around the universe being created by a sneeze was supposedly his idea. It does seem to fit with his style of humor and his opinion of religion. I wish the film had more elements like that if they were going to change so much.

The cow in Kung Pow didn't bother me, since I had already decided I didn't like the film before that point. But that particular Odenkirk has always annoyed me, especially the "thumb" parodies he's done.
blah blah stuff blah blah obscure pop culture reference blah blah clever turn of phrase blah blah bad pun blah blah bad link blah blah zzzz.....

Actually I found the kung-fu cow the only good part of Kung Pow. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was kinda lame I thought. I normaly like british humor but that movie got old real fast.
