I wasn't sure if posting this would seem completely whorish and thus be frowned upon, but if the boss is inviting everyone to post links to reviews, I guess that makes it okay!

This week's update is possibly the biggest update The Tomb of Anubis has ever done. Not only do we initiate yet another member into the clan, but EVERY contributor came through with new reviews! It's an Easter miracle...

First, our latest friend Beena (no less than the sister to our own Nix Eclipse!) provides her first piece with the 2006 Korean monster flick The Host! Our other member of the deadliest of the species fires off a new entry to the archives as well, when NutJob returns to pummel the no-budget "reality TV serial killer" crapper, My Little Eye! Fistula's Spring Break Serial Killers series comes to a close with one of the most disturbing serial killer adaptations ever with the life and lusts of Henry Lee Lucas in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer! Nix contributes to the agony this week as well, whipping out some mainstream agony with the last (and worst) of the famed killer shark series when he suffers through the movie Michael Caine missed his own Oscar award ceremony to film, Jaws: the Revenge! Ragnarok's Alphabet Project cruises on by the 'T' off-ramp to fight the snooze inducing agony of the 1960s TV movie mess They Saved Hitler's Brain! And last, but certainly not least, the bossman himself, Anubis, runs with the theme of the holiday (the living dead, of course) with the classic Tom Atkins vehicle from the man who brought us The Monster Squad, the 1986 alien zombie parasite horror comedy Night of the Creeps!

For anyone who has yet to visit our site, we update every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday night. Also, if anybody has screeners for their own movies they'd like to submit for review, our information is listed on the site and if anybody is interested in submitting reviews, we accept those too!

By all means and please feel free.  I have been posting update info for the other sites when I see it, but Shadow and Jordan just will not post their updates (wink, wink).  I did not realize you had gotten back into such a serious update schedule.

"The Saved Hitler's Brain" is noteworthy in that the Hitler head on the DVD menu is more animated than the one we see in the movie.

BounceGiggle Hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahah... sorry, gimme a second... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! BounceGiggle

For some reason that just struck me as rediculously funny right now. I wonder if Ragnarok noticed that...

But yes, we're on a rabid update binge as of late. Ragnarok and I have been pretty consistant with our additions, myself especially since I've been (blissfully) "out of work" (i.e. self-employed) for the last few months. We had a couples months there during the summer where the updates pretty much halted all together, but sometime around Halloween I had the realization that dicking around with the site was a bad thing and that, even if I never got around to all the fixes I want to make to it, I had to keep up the new material before losing all of our old fan base... rather than just the 60% that must've gotten tired of waiting and never came back. Meh, it's not like we're making money off the thing, it's just a hobby/passion/obsession.   Drink

I have been doing absolutely awful with my forum post proofreading lately.  That should have been "They Saved Hitler's Brain."

With work, family, and the site (background admin, writing, forum, email) I might have to figure something out.  Too little sleep and a rush-rush-rush pace is obviously getting the better of me.

Still, the Hitler head grimaces once the entire movie.  The one on the DVD menu jumps around, screaming in German!  It should be mentioned that the Hitler grimace is a high point of “They Saved Hitler’s Brain.”  It is not a movie for those with normal attention spans.  In fact, Job would probably get bored watching it.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

You know, I don't mind hearing about painfully bad movies - just so long as I'm not the one writing about the experience.

I'm sorry to say that it's rare for me to read movie reviews from other people. With the exception of my co-writers on the site (whose reviews I have to spell check and impregnate with html code), the badmovies.org reviews (seriously, not just going for the cheap pop) and the gradual reading of John Stanley's entire "Creature Features" book from front cover to back (more for information purposes than actual entertainment), I avoid anyone else's reviews. It's obviously not an ego thing, as anyone who knows of my lack of self-esteem will atest, I'm just afraid of being influenced by other peoples' opinions before I watch a movie and emulating other peoples' writing styles, thus becoming a shallow clone of somebody else's work. If I'm gonna suck, I'm gonna suck in my own style damn it!   Wink

If I am considering writing a review, I always avoid reading other reviews about the film.  I have even done that for a year or more, just to help ensure what I write is coming from me and not just a close recycling of something I have read (or heavily influenced).  In fact, a couple of times I have rejoiced that a review was complete so I could go read an article or two that I had been denying myself until mine was done.

During the two or three days that I'm not reviewing one movie or another, that's when I pop into badmovies.org to check for updates. If I happen to wander in on days when I am doing a new review and I see that the new update's ready, I skim through the "Things I Learned" section briefly, then come back later to read the rest once I'm finished. It's especially tempting to rip off that very idea too, as I find myself reading them every time and every time there's this voice in the back of my head that says, "We should do this for our website!". I have to stiffle him with pudding and he usually goes away after I tell him "no" a few times...  Drink

I also find it almost impossible to review a movie I've read the reviews for elsewhere, because I end up drifting toward making the same jokes and observations and that whole "Damn it! I'm ripping someone else off!" idea creeps in again.

Congrats! Glad to see you're back on the prowl Anubis! (I for one stopped visiting your site when the updates dried up... sorry! But now that you're updating regularly I'll be swinging by weekly as I once did!) It's interesting how you note it's tough to come up with original stuff for your site, especially when you visit a site as good as Andrew's and see something you want to borrow (or rip-off entirely). The Vault started out as a bad clone of Badmovies.Org but since the site started out on YaHell Geosh*tties nearly seven years ago, I've been trying to change things up so that I don't get a nasty letter from some random angry nutjob telling me that I've been stealing all of Andrew's ideas and reviews. (I'm not kidding either, I have the accursed e-mail and my reply saved on my hard drive. I glance at it every now and then for a good laugh, and realize how shallow some people really are.  TeddyR ) Keep up the awesome work Anubis AND Andrew, its guys like you that make lazy writers like myself realize why we do this: For fun and for the appreciation of b and cult films.

Thanks J, that's exactly what I was talking about on both accounts. I'm hoping to avoid the dreaded complaint mail telling me I'm ripping off somebody else's site or that I'm just recycling jokes I heard on Mystery Science Theater 3000 while at the same time I'm trying to keep up the update count, not only because I enjoy reviewing the movies but because I've gotta keep readers' attention, otherwise they'll lose interest and go to someone else whose site doesn't go six months without new material. This is why I invited the Brotherhood of Bad Movies to join me, because I genuinely enjoyed their reviews but I knew they needed someone to do the technical work, otherwise they wouldn't have the time to put into their actually writing.

You know, its hard NOT to recycle jokes that you hear on MST3K. Those guys were masters of riffing on bad movies. (And still are as they're starting up a new series called "The Film Crew" where they will once again be trapped watching terrible movies, therefore forcing them to riff on it in order to survive.) And it's super cool that the Brotherhood of Bad Movies joined up with you. I used to read their stuff all the time as well, so this is great news!
