what's the general opinion on this movie?

I think it walks the tightrope between being classic work of cinema and a just a straight up bad-movie quite well, lol.

Awesome film! cast selection was pretty good, the locations and effects were decent and a good blend of suspense and drama plus i'll never look at a snakes and ladders game the same way again  :teddyr:

This is based off of an H.P. Lovecraft story, correct?

If so I'll have to check it out...So long as it's not as bad as Cthulhu Mansion (1990).
He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature... and because of it, the greatest in the universe........
-Dr. Paul Nelson (Peter Graves)

That gum you like is going to come back in style.

Strange film.  Fairly entertaining at times, but uneven.

Actually, it is based on a Bram Stoker story.

I think it's a fun under rated film.  Then again it was one of those guilty pleasures of youth that I remember watching at friends houses so I may be biased.

Mr. DS

personally had a hard time  following the plot and the oddity of some of the images really didn't  make sense to have in the film.  Not a bad film but nothing I'd watch again any time soon.

*** out of ****.

One of Ken Russel's better movies IMO.

Gets pretty confusing and non-sensical at times, but it's a lot of fun.

But at the same time I can understand how somebody could despise the movie as well.

The first time I saw this was at a friends house.  Didn't care for it much until the crazed pyschadellic scene with the Romans and Nuns played.  This totally baffled me yet, at the same time, made me curious to find out what the holy heck was going on.

Then, when I finally did catch it from the beginning, there was that whole scene with the pickled worms and the worm song and, well, you can't get much campier than that!

I guess what I am trying to say is you don't really need to understand what's going on to enjoy Lair, just sit back and let your mind take a holiday while you watch.

Yes, depressed crack addict, myself. What can be said, that already hasn't been said by the previous posters. Not much, except, as everyone can tell from my user name, it is one of my favorite films.

If anyone is interested in the film, they might want to check out the review for it, at this site. Andrew gives it a good review. And if one looks for it, under its title, there are several clips from the film at Youtube. At least, one of which, seems to have been poached from this site.

And finally, neither will you look at blowjobs in the tub, the same way again.

Just Plain Horse

Ken Russell films are always a trip, but this one has te best payoff in my opinion. I'm partial to that little ditty about the Dampton Worm
