The Meg: Based off the Steve Alton book, this is a film that doesn't pretend to be anything else but what it really is. Sure the science is about as realistic as your average Star Trek episode and the plot has enough holes to put Trevor's undies to shame, but it's a fun popcorn movie and the kind that unashamedly belongs on a forum like this one. I agree with the star (Jason Statham), that it should have been made as an 18 (or rated R in the states) movie, but hey it is what it is. You can tell it is an American film made with Chinese money, and I found several of the background Chinese characters quite irritating. I was rather hoping the Meg would eat them (for example the chubby kid who moans at his mother to go in swimming and the bride who complains that the people going swimming are ruining her wedding). Rates a solid 3 out of 5 for me, and a hope that the sequel is a bit better.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Some years back when the first of these movies came out, I found myself (much to my surprise), enjoying it more than the other two kids horror cartoons that came out at the same time (Frankenweenie and Paranorman). Shame they didn't leave it at the first one as (for me anyway) it has gone downhill rapidly. Still, maybe kids will enjoy it and after all, that is its target audience.
