Kyle Gann - Transcendental Sonnets

"This 35-minute work is based on poems of Jones Very (1813-1880), a protege of Emerson's who either went mad or became infused with the Holy Spirit, depending on whom you're reading about him, and who wrote some of the most ecstatic religious poetry (mostly sonnets) in the English language."

The music critic composer has made it available for download: http://www.kylegann.com/Gannaudio.html.  I like this piece a lot better than his usual stuff, but I have some sort of soft spot for the drama and atmosphere of sacred music, despite not being religious myself.

I just love the Genius feature from iTunes. I clicked on the Dazz Band's On The One For Fun (1983) and Genius created an excellent Old School Funk playlist from my mp3's. Now playing: Rick James - High On Your Love Suite

The Church - Beside Yourself -- Just recieved a copy of this CD of B-sides and outtakes from Forget Yourself, and probably as good as that album.  I am anxiously awaiting their new album which comes out tomorrow (it's been available in Austalia for about a month, though).  It's like waiting for some magical holiday!
