Rev. Powell

ACT - 15 Magic Years 1992 - 2007

Nice sampler from a European jazz label I was lucky to stumble upon.  Two well known names appear--John Lee Hooker and Norah Jones--and a lot of European jazz artists I'd never heard of before, but almost all of whom were pretty great.

Alot of talk when this originally came out was, that Kingdom Come had ripped off Led Zeppelin note for note. It's true in part. Most of this album is delivered in the same style as Led Zep, with many passages sounding like Kashmir samples and vocalist Lenny Wolf sounding just like Plant. But, I like this way more than Led Zep and I don't care. Just wish I'd have given this a proper listen 2 years ago.

I've been downloading free tracks from salon.com's discontinued audiofile blog: http://www.salon.com/ent/audiofile/.

Mostly indie rock type stuff, although I did find some very cool Betty Davis funk... turns out she wasn't just a golddigger riding Miles' coattails, she was actually a very fine and amazingly sexy funk songstress... download her "Anti Love Song" here to see what I mean!
