The Mackrosoft - Antonio's Giraffe -- Some cool jazz-funk.  And you can find it for dirt cheap most places online (1 cent + $2.98 shipping on Amazon for a new copy!).

The Cheebacabra - Exile in the Woods -- More funky tunes (that also cost a penny!) from a lot of the same players from The Mackrosoft.  Still has jazzy elements but heavy on the synths and probably more funky.  Here's the first track from the album:

How is that?  Generally, I don't like anybody else playing RAVEL but VLADO PERLEMUTER.  Does it include the "Serenade Grotesque"?

I don't have very much to compare it to but they are excellent performances.  I already had Samson Francois playing "Gaspard la Nuit" and Anton Bagatov playing "Le Tombeau De Couperin."  Tharaud's performances are equal to my ears; I'm not that much of an expert to detect the nuances that make one interpretation great and another mediocre.  I picked this up because it was the version of Ravel's piano works mentioned in the "1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die" book. Yes, "Serenade Grotesque" is there; I do believe it is complete piano works, even though it's only 2 discs.

Interesting thing about "complete works" (the "oeuvre") is sometimes, they're not complete.  The "Serenade Grotesque" wasn't published until 1975, and then only in a Musical Heritage Society LP recording from Brooklyn College (if I recall correctly).  I think I have the "Serenade Grotesque" on a CD "oeuvre" someone gave me which I didn't like so it's not even uploaded.  I don't have a recording of VLADO PERLEMUTER playing it (but I'm now on a mission)... Nothing is obscure, these days.  Yet, I don't think all of RAVEL's music has been published...

Here's the CD set I have that I don't like; I don't listen to it.  Of course, I routinely post the VLADO recordings I love.   Smile
