FREAK OUT!!!

I watched this one last night, and it was a VERY strange movie experience.  This is a  British slasher/comedy/slacker/musical/parody . . . . I think that covers everything.  The main character, Mervin Doody, is a slaher film afficianado who gets the opportunity of a lifetime when a mild-mannered, gay-sounding escaped mental patient hides out in his house.  He coaches and teaches the loony to be the next Freddy or Jason - and comes up with a signature costume, orange prison coveralls with a burlap sack over the head and a hockey mask over the sack.  The guys weapon of choice is . . . a spatula.
The movie doesn't get much more comprehensible than that.  There are some pretty hilarious dialogue moments, but the British accents are so thick the movie is hard to follow at times.  Still, all in all, it's not bad.  One note - the box on the shelf said this was a deluxe two-disk DVD set with tons of outtakes, deleted scenes, et cetera on the extra disk . . . but when I rented it, all I got was one disk.

I would love to hear some other opinions on this one.

I love Freak Out.  I happened upon it by chance, and it was something that I certainly do not regret.  I ended up buying the DVD after renting it.

Mervin Doody and his bud Onkey are both great and hilarious.  Onkey is one of those absolutely hilarious buddies that one rarely sees in films anymore.   Not only that, but everything about this film is a love letter to 80s slashers.  It's hard to find a good comedy/horror film but this one is absolutely fantastic.

Where else can you see someone scream: "That's not Larry Hagman!  That's EVIL LARRY HAGMAN!!!!"

Cracks me up every time.
