CAIN'S CUTTHROATS (1971) - A bloody Western with John Carradine co-starring as the preacher/bounty hunter who keeps the heads of the hunted in a pickle type barrel on his wagon. He helps out ex-confederate Captain Cain get revenge on his former men that first robbed a Union money transport and then went to the Captains home to use the money so the South could rise again, but the Captain tells them that the war is over and to forget it. They don't take kindly to this so they rape and kill his wife right in front of him and then shoot him and his son. John Carradine comes along and buries the wife and son while treating the still alive Captain Cain. Then they go after Cain's former scruffy comrades. They kill them one by one in brutal ways except the leader of the gang who is caught by Union soldiers and sent to the firing squad. After the soldiers shoot him Cain proceeds to fill the man responsible full of lead for the death of his family. At first this looks like a cheap production and it is, but the gore effects are quite different for a Western.

(7 Out Of 10 Stars)    Gave it an extra star just because it's such a film oddity.

I keep seeing this in a four movie set in the WalMart $5 bin.  After reading you're little review I may just pick it up.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Trek Geezer get both the Western Justice and the Western Shootout sets distributed by Direct Source at Walmart. They are worth the $5 each.

Not sure why they call themselves Direct Source as the images don't appear to be from a good source.
