Tomorrow, February 12, marks the 200th birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin.  As a rookie-league Evolutionary Biologist and a Bachelor's-Degree-League Historian, I feel I should honor both of them.

I'm also going out to the bar tomorrow, as it is cheap-drinks night at the bar I frequent.

What should I be drinking?

I like beer. And I like the in house-brewed beer that some places offer, like John Harvard's.

But it irritates the hell out of me when they try to write up the beer like it's wine ("fruity overtones") or try to tell me it makes a difference which beer I should take with which sandwich.

Heck, I don't even want to hear that stuff with wine. If I want wine, I want a glass of red or a glass of white. Usually red. And it doesn't matter what's for dinner. End of story.

I don't quite get the phrase "drink the Kool-Aid" being used to mean, like, hey, you bought into that, now you're part of it. Given the origins of the reference, shouldn't it mean, you know, you did something and now you're...dead?

Ever noticed that the people who where clothes that scream "LOOK AT ME" get furious when you look at them.  Its kind of like the girls who dress scantly clad and get mad when you check them out.

And sometimes they get mad if you don't look -- during the late summer/early autumn and mid-spring months at my campus, there will be lots and lots of female students laying around studying and tanning at the same time, very scantily clad.  I always walk by and pay them no heed, and I've heard them comment to one another, "He didn't look! What the hell?"


Which just goes to show, women are the undisputed masters of Orwellian Doublethink.

Interesting story on the local news earlier...

Everybody knows that the internet has lead to an increase in child pornography...
But it's not just Dirty Old Men getting busted for it.

With today's technology, sexually active youth a better able to take naughty pictures of themselves, email them to their partner, who in turn forwards them to their friends, & so on & so forth... In essence, children are now able to produce & publish their own kiddie porn.

As a result, an increasing number of minors are getting arrested for possession of child pornography.

I dunno, I thought it was ironic.

I rather dislike it when my one of my wife's younger cousins hog the video games during holidays.  Its even more irritating that the kid doesn't know how to play them.
