I find myself spiraling down into another wave of depression.  They've come and gone for years.  This one was triggered by the sudden and inexplicable dumping of me by my girlfriend, who seemed happy with me and wept when she broke up with me, saying, "I've cried over guys before...but you're the only one who was ever worth it", but later said she'd been unhappy with the relationship for weeks (and I know she's not a good enough actress to fool me if she was honestly unhappy).

On top of that, I'm in a miserable job where the bosses actively encourage us to back-stab each other for cash prizes, but can't get anything better right now and have too many bills to pay to just quit.

And the cherry on the s**t sundae is that my D&D group, one of my only escapes from everything else, are constantly complaining that I'm not doing a good enough job running the game, each week's complaints contradicting the complaints of the week before, and now they're rolling their eyes and making snide comments about the adventures I run.
That sucks. Once you're depressed it's not easy to become..well..undepressed.
You don't know me well enough to take help from me about women and jobs, so here's a (not very good) tip about your D&D group: Try asking them about what do they dislike in your style. Or you could just rest the DM stuff right now, and just play.

That D&D stuff sounds a lot like a golf league I used to run.  Everybody had all these ideas, and being a nice guy, I followed their suggestions.  So then they whined and complained constantly.  It was extremely frustrating.  Of course nobody else wanted the job because everybody whined and complained all the time.

Maybe it's time to tell one of these other geniuses to run the thing, and you can get back to the pleasure of playing.  Let somebody else worry about all the complaining  :teddyr:

Well, my toenail is coming out in exactly 2 hours. Not looking forward to it, as the anesthetic didn't work on me last time. Luckily, the clinic is only a 10min walk away from my flat and a 15min hop on the way back.
How did it go?

That's essentially exactly what's happening.  I work 40 hours a week, I have limited time to devote to preparing for the game, and even more limited time to run the game.  We play for three hours, once a week, which is nothing.  So they complained that I'm not doing enough to keep everyone on track, and keep out-of-game conversation to a minimum, to maximize our use of our time.  So now they're complaining that I'm too harsh in keeping out-of-game conversation to a minimum.

That's what I'm thinking.  They don't like it? "Fine.  Do better."

The thing that's really bothering me is when they recognized that I'm sending them on a "collect the items necessary to save the world" quest, they started rolling their eyes and making snide remarks about it.

One of the best ways I've found to avoid depression after a breakup is to always date lying cheating whores.

My problem with women is that I seem to make Dulcineas out of Aldonzas.  Not surprising, really, as I've been somewhat informally diagnosed by the therapist I saw last time I got down this low as extremely Quixotic.

I have no idea what you said, but I'm going to assume that making Dulcineas out of Aldonzas is a bad thing and so you have my sympathy.

Now that I've got this new cell phone figured out (within reason), It's got me wondering; If all the passengers on the SS Minnow had one of these (or maybe the real expensive kind), just how dumb would Gilligan have to be to insure an extended run series?

That's easy: "Opps!" drop on the ground (or into the water).

Well, the thing about D&D players in general (and yes, I'm putting myself in this category) is a lot of them are not they most socially well adjusted bunch.  That's why playing a role is so much easier for them.  But a lot of them (well, people in general) think being snide and rude is funny and have no clue (or care) as to how much hurt it can cause other people.

Plus, in my humble experience, a lot of hardcore gamers are a bit on the elitist side.  They've pretty got there own group of friends who've they've known for God only knows how long and aren't eager to accept new members.  Not to mention I've found a lot gamers in general have a hell of a time talking about anything BUT gaming, which can make try to be friends with them a pain in the ass.

Granted, I'm getting a bit off subject now, sorry...

Woohoo! It went great. I didn't feel anything this time. The nurse did it in about 5mins and I thought she hadn't even started, they said "all done". I limped home and now I've got two weeks off to rest and chill out. Toe is throbbing like hell now though...

Plus, the nurse who did it was a dead ringer for Nicole Sheridan!  :tongueout:
