We got one of those damned water purifier things.  My wife says the water from it tastes recycled.  "Recycled?"  I said, "You mean, as opposed to the brand new stuff they manufacture at those big water factories?"  I got the scrunched-up nose smirk.

What type of purifier is it?  I mean, is it one of those small ones that hooks directly to the faucet or something else? 

My parents years back bought the rain soft purifying system for our water.  It's a big tank that hooks up to the... well, dunno what you call it.. the main water input for the house?  Anyway, it gives you soft water which is really good for lathering and stuff like that and tastes decent too.  Only problem is on occasion something would go wrong with the machine and the water would end tasting REALLY damn salty!  (There's a bunch of salt chips in one of the tanks, and the salt is used, somehow or another to purify the water.)

I always wondered though if the machine could malfunction slightly and let some of the salt in... not enough to really taste, but to enough to jack up your blood pressure.

It just hooks up to the faucet.  We had our water tested a while ago and it's perfectly good, but my wife and kids drink bottled water because it comes in bottles and costs money, so it must be "better", even though it's just from somebody else's tap.  I think it's actually the (harmless) contaminants in water that make it taste like it does, which is why distilled water tastes horrible.  So their logic goes that if you purify the water, it will taste more like the unpurified stuff that comes in bottles.  I suppose next we'll have to spend more money for a more expensive purifier to make the perfectly good water taste bad.

Jack you adventurer, we did the whole purifier thing for a bit until wifey decided she can only do the bottled water thing.   Personally, I'm an old pour it out of the tap, put in some ice and drink kind of guy. 

My boring excitement of the day, I'm going to look for a new winter coat.

Yup, next we'll have to get the Brita pitcher or whatever, which they'll use for one day and then go back to bottled water.     At least then I can take that huge ugly thing off the kitchen faucet.
