It's funny how everyone thinks they sound "normal" and everyone else has the accent. When I was a kid I'd spend summers visiting my family in Galway and one of my cousins there would entertain her friends by gathering them around and she'd ask me to pronounce certain everyday words. And these girls would sit there on the edges of their seats practically holding their breath in anticipation to hear me talk, and then they'd burst out laughing in delight at my pronunciation.

"Say 'strawberries'!"
"Uh, OK, strawberries."
"Say 'inchworm'."
"Inchworm."
"Say 'motorcycle'."
"Motorcycle."


They'd just about be rolling on the floor laughing going, "Listen to how she talks!"

I dunno, weird stuff.

When I found out Ray Bradbury passed away, I put on black. This afternoon an older gentleman of perhaps WWII vintage asked if I was in black because it was D-Day. I almost felt guilty when I told him no.
