Sad news, but I honestly did not realize she was still alive.  I guess that I just assumed she had to have passed away years ago.  Her age (86) surprised me.  She was much younger in "Plan 9 from Outer Space" than I thought she was.

This is very sad news indeed. She had a neat website I visted once in awhile.
It's not too well known, but she also appeared in a few JD films (as a beatnick) and as the old witch/hag/vampire in The SWORD and the DRAGON.

She's reunited with Bela,Tor,and Eddie Wood in the land of the Undead.

Here's a ABC News 7 salute to her ...including a breif interview.

It's sad to see her go. She really was quite the looker and a good in her role as Vampira. You always knew that she was out there from her periodic suits against Cassandra Peterson. I grew up with Elvira and never really knew Vampira. She was before my time, but she was still an icon.

I have a 7 inch single she made with her band "satan's cheerleaders".  it's insane.  one song is called "i 'm damned"  the other side I can't even remember what it is but it has a big swastika instead of song information on the label.

RIP Vampira...  :bluesad:

She lived an interesting life.  She dated James Dean.  Was immortalized in a punk song.  Pioneered the late night horror movie show.

Check out the documentary The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr. for a great Vampira interview.  (It's part of the Ed Wood Box set).

She's gone to that big cardboard cutout cemetery in the sky.
He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature... and because of it, the greatest in the universe........

heh, i liked how when she was talking about how she made her waist smaller by using flesh eating bacteria, the news reporters tried to make it look like she was kidding.

Oh Sh*t !!! I've been so involved in my own troubles that I had not seen any item regarding VAMPIRA's passing.  I am devastated, and just questioned my pal BELA regarding his use of VAMPIRA instead of LUGOSI... now I understand.  Very sad news...VAMPIRA will live ever on!!!

Believe it or not...few deaths of celebrities affect me too much,really...Joey Ramone...Lon Chaney Jr. when I was a kid. Vampira 's passing truly saddens me. She was more than a movie host. She was an icon.
One of my first horror movie memories was seein her stalk towards me from the intro to Chiller Theater....I feel like another part of my childhood has died.  :bluesad:

She indeed will be missed, I wish they'd release her old shows. Many of which are in private collections. :bluesad:
