Movies you thought you would love but ended up hating.......

I actually liked all of the Spider-Man movies---the only thing that I really hated was the Green Goblin---who looked like a Power Rangers ripoff, and New Goblin who looked like-well nothing much at all.

I really hope the rumored Spidey 4 is good--even with new writers and directors--no Raimi? I dunno, if it will be as good now, but I'll give it a shot.

Let us not forget the X-Men movies--they were fair and that's about it--some of the actors were dead-on perfect for their roles--such as the casting they got for Wolverine, Prof. X, Magneto etc.

And then there were the cruddy ones like---well to tell you the truth the only crappy casting in the X-men flicks was Hallie Berrie--but she ruined all three films.....and she sucked as Catwoman too--then again she sucks in all of her roles......

I thought Sunshine was amazing.

Probably the most egregious example I can think of is Unbreakable. I loved The Sixth Sense, so I was pretty excited to see Shyamalan's new one. Surprise, surprise, I hated almost every minute of it. People were laughing at the movie, laughing at it. What should have been a taut, suspenseful thriller was a pretentiously, plodding pile of poop. Sorry to alliterate, but I really did not like this movie.

Shyamalan has yet to live up to his original promise, now five or so films later.

I didn't hate Sunshine, and if I watched it again I'd probably see the brilliance that I missed before.  I made the mistake of going in with a preconceived idea about it.  I thought it would be like Even Horizon (which I loved).  So I think I let myself down more than anything.

And I liked Unbreakable.  It was an original idea amongst all the drek at the time.  I also liked Sixth Sense, but I thought Signs was a little lame.  I mean, lifeforms that are afraid of water? Why'd they come to a planet that is 80% covered in water?  Doesn't all life spring from the fact that water is present?  And aliens that can't use door knobs?  How the hell did they build space ships then?

I haven't seen Lady In The Water or The Village, but I sussed out what The Village was all about before it was shown.  LITW I'm not interested in unless someone can tell me what happens before I see it   :teddyr:

With Shyamalan, his schtick is a shocking twist, so there's no real surprise in his movies, you just have to imagine an ending that is 180 degrees from the movie and you've got your ending.

I wouldn't say I ended up hating these films, but was just really disappointed in them.

Alexander
Godzilla (1998)
King Arthur
The Village
Blair Witch 2
Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Hulk
Gangs of New York
Alien 3 (the closest I have come to actually hating a movie)
Alien resurrection
A.I.

Blade Trinity

There's a Blair Witch 2???   :buggedout:  I don't even know what happened in the first one.

I agree with you about Alien 3, although I didn't go the hate route.  I thought it was the weakest of the franchise.  Then I bought the uncut director's version and it was so much better.  It made heaps more sense and engaged me a lot more.  So now I actually like this movie, even though I think it's the weakest of the 4.

Yeah, they made a Blair Witch 2.  And Urban Legend 2 and 3.  And I believe they just came out with a third I Know What You Did Last Summer.

I loved the first I Know What You Did and the second one I thought was a little lame but not completely sucky.

Haven't seen Urban Legend yet, but it's in the queue.

Continuing with the actual thread.....

I thought the sequels to the Scary Movie franchise would be funny, but the first one is the best.  I absolutely loved it and it was funny as hell.  But the others left me cold, although there are a few funny moments.  But not enough for me to say I like them.

I'm shuddering at Scary Movie 5.  How much more blood can they wring out of this stone anyway?

I also thought I'd love Hollow Man 2, having loved the first one.  But I got about 20 mins in and I turned it off.

I recall running out the night the toys went on sale and buying up a bunch of the figures.  Oh how I anticipated the big release and I recall going to one of the first afternoon showing the day of because I couldn't wait.  I smiled for the first 10 minutes thinking that things will get better.  They never did after 2 more prequels.  :hatred:

You know what's funny? I couldn't stand the first two, but I adored the third one. I liked the fourth one a little, but it doesn't compare to the third. That's just me. :P

I own the first 2 Scary Movies on dvd and think they're hilarious.  Scary Movie 3 was okay enough, but I wouldn't clunk down the money for dvd.  I haven't even attempted to watch 4.

Quoteit made me unable to watch ANY Peter Jackson film, even Dead Alive.

thats a little extreme dont you think? his old "trilogy" is nothing like his newer films, they have something special about them not to mention over the top antics that wouldnt be suitable for any theatrical release. basically they are alot of fun and you know it  :tongueout:.

QuoteAlien 3 (the closest I have come to actually hating a movie)

im with Happy, watch the directors cut its a hell of alot better film. i have the quadrilogy 9 disc set, idk if Alien 3 is even more uncut on this particular set but it is the one i watched and like i said, it rocked.

Death Proof, The Fountain, Bug and Zodiac.

I don't really hate them but wow, was I ever underwhelmed.

The Fountain was a huge letdown for me as well.  I think it's OK, but the trailer gave me chills and I was excited about seeing it.  But once it was over it left an empty feeling.  It just wasn't emotionally engaging for me.

I feel the same way. I was hoping for something more.
