I was at the Busy Bee Flea Market last weekend and bought a cheap dvd of a lowbudget slasher called SLEEPAWAY CAMP (1983).
Now...I was expecting a run of the mill ,dull, mindless teenager/slasher flik.
This is anything but run of the mill! The teens are mostly pre-teens. And Out of their tiny little mouths comes the most swearing I have ever heard in a horror film this side of PLANET TERROR. The adult charecters are a child molester, a sterotype black cook who seems to have come right out of some Monogram picture from the 1940's, a paranoid child beater, and sadistic camp counslers.

Most of the teens are either sex starved or bullying morons who are constantly terrorizing a Angela, a mental case since watching her brother and Dad get creamed by a motorboat years before. Of course lots of people get what they deserve ,being stabbed, drowned, boiled and such by an unknown killer.

This movie is twisted. Lots of weird sexual overtones  squirm around like maggots throught the whole plot. Child molestation, homosexuality, gender issues,-ugh! It really took me by surprize at how twisted this film was.

And the ending...all I can say is YOW!!! A really, big JOLT!!! I actually yelled "WHAT THE F#@K !?!?" and about gagged!  :buggedout:

All and all...not what I was expecting from a movie with  modest title of SLEEPAWY CAMP. Should have been titled-TWISTED HELL TEEN ASYLUM. Or something .

This one is a classic, defining example of 80's horror.  As much as it's been  batted around on this board, I am surprised you haven't seen it before, RC.

Ahhh, Fox News watchers!

The sleaze factor is what puts this one(it's sequels aside)over the top.  It's like LITTLE DARLINGS meets OVER THE EDGE meets THE FINAL TERROR.  Whenever I catch this one, I usually end up with a hankering to watch NIGHT OF THE DEMON again, as well.  There's just something magical about these flicks.  Just as I reached my 17th birthday and could cart myself to see these gems, the age was pretty much over.  Luckily HBO, Cinemax and the local mom & pop video store(remember them?!?!)filled the void.

I give folks like Eli Roth some credit for trying to recapture the...*cough*...spirit of these crassterpieces, but it appears it's quite impossible to get that same "go fo broke" shameless misogyny and titillation.  The world is just different enough, I guess.  :bluesad:
That's my driver's license picture....I hate that picture!"

Well...to each his own. I was surprised and shocked by it...as far as slasher fliks go....I found it much more interesting than the many FRIDAY the 13th sequels and the ilk. I'm also fortunate enough (if 'fortunate" is the word you can use for it,according to individual opinion) to have totally UNCUT version.

One thing I really like is much of the weird action happens in sharp, shiny daylight. I'ts  like,as Soylent Green says, an After School Special gone horribly wrong.  :buggedout:

Why, nobody said this film was "smart..."  Like I wrote, I can't imagine anybody would!  It was one of my "dumb movie" choices, after all.   :teddyr:

I didn't care for that movie at all.  It was like the Bad News Bears, except with lots of swearing.  It just bored the crap out of me.  I wanna watch kids play softball for 10 minutes?  Yeah, right.  But, the ending was awesome - no doubt about that  :bouncegiggle:

I can vivedly recall the day waaay back in the 80's when my best friend and I rented this film one Saturday afternoon from the local mom and pop video place (yes, I remember those!). We got some chips and soda and kicked back in my room to watch it, commenting on various things as the film progressed. Then that total WTF ending came and we were both just dumbfounded. We had to rewind it a time or two in order for the sheer shock of it all to sink in. That twist at the end just blew our minds.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

The ending just creeps me the hell out simply because of the sounds shes making and the expresion on her face.
