I caught a showing of this at Monster Mania this past weekend. It was hosted by one of the actresses (not Asia). For starters, let me say that I really wanted to like this movie, having waited almost five years (since discovering that Suspiria was part of a trilogy) and no matter how much it got trashed by critics, I just told myself that they were looking for something to criticize. Well...unfortunately, many of those criticisims were right. Granted, there's a coherent story, plenty of gore, nudity and entertainment value...however, what its sorely missing is style. What made the other two films unique was the use of vivid color, camera angles, far-out architecture, and the creative modes of death. When we heard that Argento was finishing his trilogy, we thought it would be awesome to see a film like that made in modern times. But we didnt get it here. Dont get me wrong, it was entertaining, and better than a lot of the crap that Hollywood puts out. Yet to see the Master of Horror reduced to what is basically another helping of torture porn really hurts.

Man, how Dario Argento's talent as a filmmaker has fallen so since his last great film IMO 1987's Opera.

Mother of Tears was just plain goofy and a lot of times it felt like a Sci-Fi channel movie if they allowed full frontal nudity and more graphic violence than they usually show.

And to people who say that he ruined the trilogy with this movie, it isn't like Inferno was the special either (though he still had his fantastic visual sense with that movie which completely carried either).

Disappointing to hear that the movie was a let-down, but, sad to say, I'm not surprised.  I think Torgo's correct that Argento has completely lost the magic in his declining years.

it`s great uncut on dvd, beware wal-mart only carries the R rated version.

I actually liked Mother of Tears. By no means was it Deep Red, Bird With the Crystal Plumage or Suspira. But it was a fun romp.

Which is odd because Wally World has carried most of the other Dimension Extreme DVD's that have "unrated" plastered on the cover.

I caught this one last night.  Very dark, and very gory.  The end was somewhat anticlimactic, but come to think of it, don't most women freak out and die if you rip their blouse off and throw it into the fire?
