Disgusting police work, surely you try and talk him out of it, long enough at least until some form of safety net/bag can be used. Even if he jumped at least you don't run the risk of causing it, unlike this moron.

That's a good example of how the psyche testing done to prospective police fails miserably. What they need to test for (same with Correctional Officers) is for that stupid F-ing neuron in their head that makes them want to be a hero. Some of these idiots just want something to happen NOW, no wait, no thinking about it, no learning, , just do something, even if it's wrong. I just love the idea of rushing a suicide-situation. Even if you take a few minutes, hours, whatever, and the person STILL offs them self, at least you made them live a LITTLE longer.

Seems the Police Lt. who ordered the officer to fire the tazer at the victim committed suicide himself.

This is the most depressing story I've ever heard.

My Mother works for NYPD so I know a bit more about this case. That Lt. was in HUGE trouble. NYPD even made a public apology which they never do so you know he was going to be fired and possibly jail time for making a grave mistake. Its a awful that he killed himself though.

NYPD is really careful about those Tazers compared to other states. They just started using them and you need clearance to use them which is a good thing but I feel NYPD shouldn't have them. They were fine without it.

I see how other states use them and my opinion they use way to much. I couldn't believe in other states that when someone is arrested and taken to jail for booking that they could be tazered there. Most of the time those people are drunk/drugged up (Illegal and possibly prescription if their just "crazy) so say if there tazered by the cops outside and than taken to booking and they act up they could be tazered AGAIN. That has to have effect on their heart. At least here NYPD and Corrections in booking don't have tazers and hopefully never will.
